to think there are polite ways to say you're not going to the office party

Someone in here has gone to a lot of trouble to arrange or Christmas night out. Obviously not everyone wants to go, which is fine. But someone has just said, very loudly, in front of the organiser, "God no, I'm not going. I've better things to do the Friday before Christmas".

AIBU to think this is rude and ignorant. I've seen this before - people unable to just say 'sorry I can't make it' but have to make big statements about 'having a life' or 'not socialising with colleagues.

I’ve sent an email back

‘Thank you for the invitation - I won’t be attending but I hope you have a lovely time’

Personal experience, the Office Organiser is always she who does parties and collections, is always going on and on about party attendance. It's wearing. They never take no for an answer. They pester you constantly.

Chestylarue's email is perfect. YANBU - some people are dicks.

No, she wasn't pestering anyone. Someone else brought it up in conversation and she happened to be there.
