To spend a fiver on presents

My dd is five and I try to spend about £5 on present for her friends on their birthday's. I do bulk buy in sales so presents tend to be worth around £10 but I only ever spend £5 (and some children end up with the same present). Now she's at school I'm wondering if parents will think I'm stingy. Would it cross your mind to think about how much a present is worth?

Yanbu, I try and spend around £5. If you're kiddo is going to ten + parties a year, you're already talking big money.

At that age £5 was my budget too, during reception and year 1 they got a lot of invites. Now my dcs are older and go to a lot less parties I spend a little more for their best friends present.

£5 is absolutely fine. It really is.

LaurieMarlow · 10/10/2018 18:44

That's fine. Don't sweat.

Hellywelly10 · 10/10/2018 18:44

Sounds fine op.

I give £5 in a card for reception aged children. Dd2 is now in year 3 so will probably take it to £10 this year. Ds and dd1 would put £10 in a card and that seems to be standard for those giving money around here (ds only got money in cards this year- age 10).

I do the same, I have a present drawer. Currently in there are flippy sequins t.shirts - Gap 40% off sake price and a mini tapestry kit Rex sale just over a fiver. Also a couple of magic box kits from alocal toy store closure 75% for fiver. Kids don't care about the price.

When my dd was in reception I only spent £5 as she was invited to so many, and I absolutely bought the same present for every child.

We say £5 max but some friends give ridiculous presents, £15 + value, or even cash/vouchers £10/15. Its too much and the children don’t know or care about the value at all.

PotteringAlong · 10/10/2018 19:38

That’s my budget.

BitchQueen90 · 10/10/2018 19:58

YANBU I spend about that. I can't afford to spend more with the amount of parties that DS goes to. It's just a token thing.
