Anyone had any experience with their dog reverse sneezing? I was a bit Confused when it first happened.

My dog has never done it before, but for the last two days she's been normal sneezing a lot and reverse sneezing a couple of times a day. (and to add to my guilt, she looks at me like it's my fault after she's done it Grin).

Dog's can't get colds. can they? Any ideas anyone? I feel ridiculous ringing the vets because my dog is sneezing Grin

A quick google suggest that continuous sneezing may mean something is sick up poor doggy’s nose. Can you try and have a look? I’d probably just get her checked anyway.

Padparadscha · 10/10/2018 09:48

Stuck not sick Confused. Bloody autocorrect on my phone has been going mad recently!

AGirlinLondon · 10/10/2018 09:51

My dog does this, and the first time he did it I FREAKED out!!

I always find it helpful to just call the vet and see what they say about it rather than booking in straight away.

My poor dog hates the vet so we only go if we absolutely have to.

Anything like pollen, dust and leaf fall can do it.

IABURQO · 10/10/2018 09:53

How much is he doing it?

Do you have any new cleaning products or plants in the house?

I'd phone the vet.

Espress0Patronum · 10/10/2018 09:54

Thanks for the quick replies.

I did have a look up there yesterday and couldn't see anything, and she doesn't seem to be pawing at her face or anything.

Sounds like a better give the vets a call just to be sure.

AGirlinLondon - Ours is the same, she gets a bit stressed out at the vets

My dog does this occasionally if something tickles her nose. If your dog has only started sneezing recently, and it's happening a lot, then defo call the vet for advice. My previous dog inhaled a grass seed up her nose which caused her to sneeze a lot and she had to have it removed under anaesthetic.

AGirlinLondon · 10/10/2018 10:26

@Espress0 our dog is a rescue and I guess had a terrible experience at the vet in the past. He is unbelievably placid but turns into a tiger at the vets ☹️ Very best of luck to you!

Espress0Patronum · 10/10/2018 10:43

Thanks everyone.

We've got an appointment for this afternoon, the vet said it was best to bring her in just in case.

I did wonder about a grass seed, but I didn't think it was the right time of year Feellikeimthemaid. I thought they were only a summer thing.

What breed? Pug type could be an airway issue?
No coughing?

goodlordwhathappened · 10/10/2018 10:46

One of our dogs does this probably every other day 😑 the first time he did it I panicked. We asked the vet about it and they said it was totally harmless :-)

Agentornika · 10/10/2018 11:10

My dog and mums dog both do this constantly, both been vet checked. Perfectly normal and very common apparently

Espress0Patronum · 10/10/2018 11:18

No shes not a pug, and there is no coughing.

Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious

agirlwithnoname · 10/10/2018 11:22

I'd have called for advice too - glad you got an appointment - hope she is okay!

ByeGermsByeWorries · 10/10/2018 12:23

My jack Russell x chihuahua does this. Always has done, we call it snoovering Grin the first time he did it I panicked and took him to the vet but she said there was nothing to worry about. Hope your appointment goes well :)

Wolfiefan · 10/10/2018 12:25

Hope all goes ok.

LakieLady · 10/10/2018 12:38

Snoovering - what a fantastically descriptive word for it!

DDog is a prolific snooverer, always has been. The vet said that there's absolutely nothing wrong with her, some dogs just do it a lot. She's not a flat-faced breed either, she has quite a long snout.

Espress0Patronum · 10/10/2018 16:27

Snoovering is a great word for it!

Update for anyone who's interested -

Just got back from the vets, she thinks she's got a respiratory infection, rather then something stuck in her nose, as she has a temperature, so we've got antibiotics, and if they don't work, they may have to have her back in to investigate for a grass seed or something else.

Thanks for all the advice, she seems much happier now (not least because she gets to have sausages injected with medicine Grin)

Wolfiefan · 10/10/2018 16:41

Oh bless. Hope she recovers well.

Padparadscha · 10/10/2018 16:47

You did the right thing, hope she recovers quickly!
