Possible scaphoid fracture

About 6 weeks ago I hurt my hand opening a jar of honey. My thumb hyperextended as I was twisting the jar and lid (it was stuck fast). It hurt at the time and was quite sore for a few days but there wasn't any swelling that I noticed. It settled down but never stopped hurting, I assumed I have strained it. 4 weeks later it was still hurting in a particular point, and I don't have any grip strength and it's not getting better so I went to the GP who said it might be a scaphoid fracture and sent me for an x-ray at a local hospital. 2 weeks later I still haven't heard anything from the doctors as they haven't received the x-ray yet and it's still hurting, maybe even more than it was.

AIBU to kick up a stink at the doctors that I haven't heard anything yet? From what I've read scaphoid fractures need to be taken seriously in case of future repercussions. Any suggestions about what I should do now?

Well, personally, I wouldn't "kick up a stink".
I'd phone the surgery and politely ask if they have had your x-ray report back yet as you are still experiencing symptoms.
If they have, well and good.
If they haven't, phone again in a couple of days.

In my experience, and I appreciate my experience isn't everyone's, with test results, no news is usually good news.
They'll come chasing you if you have something that needs treatment.

I've been doing that for 2 weeks - still nothing. I'm concerned that I'm doing more damage by using it as it's not getting any better. If it does need treatment then I'd rather start it sooner rather than later, especially if it involves a cast as I'll have to change childcare as I won't be able to drive, and my husband won't be able to go away on a business trip he is currently planning and booking flights for.

I guess I just wanted to check how long was reasonable to wait for an x-ray to come back.

In the olden days, they used to say allow a week to 10 days before GP would receive reports.
Keep phoning OP.

I would say you should have the report back after 2 weeks. Where was the x-ray taken? Can you call there and ask if the report is available?

I tried that too, they don't answer the phone and you have to leave a message on the answerphone which I did. No call back yet. So frustrating!
