To think 100% attendance is unrealistic

I know some manage it which is great. But I can’t help but think that once a child has had a day off there’s nothing to aim for then.

Wouldn’t it be better to award 95% attendance or similar?

As parent and doctor working with children I find these awards so fustrating they encourage unwell children to attend and discriminate against those with health issues.

Luckily, neither of the primary schools we've attended did these awards. My eldest is never sick, she hasn't had a tummy bug since she was 3, 10 years ago. Strong as an ox, great for her. My youngest has had recurrent ear infections, viral wheeze which has landed her in hospital a couple of times, regular hospital appointments with the ophthalmologist. No idea what her attendance is but it's not great. And it's totally out of her control!

These targets drive me up the wall...we lost my DH in the last week of the summer holidays. Ds went for the first week back..then had a week off due to the funeral..he had half days for counseling which all added up and i got moaned at.
These targets should. Come with some common sense

Attendance awards are a pile of steaming poo! It’s nothing to do with the kids, it’s the parents who get them in or not, who take them out for funerals or weddings, or maybe have to take them out for a medical appt. or maybe the kids just bloody ill!

I was always popping in and out of school, due to Schizophrenia related matters. They had a lot of attendance related awards such as non uniforms etc.

I was always allowed to participate Smile I think it comes under authorities absence

DS actually had a comment on his school report last year, stating that he needed to improve his attendance. He'd had 4 days off, after a serious broken bone which required surgery and three days in hospital.

To be honest, it just makes a mockery of the system.
