Coughing and sneezing in public

Just want a bit of a rant. In the last week I have been directly coughed on twice whilst out and about. First time was when walking out of a train station and I passed a woman who coughed in my face. Second time was just now when I was sitting drinking coffee and someone coughed ON me as they walked past. What is wrong with people these days?? Weren't they brought up to cover their mouths? Angry

I agree, I got coughed on last week by a woman behind me on the bus, I could feel her breath on my head and face. My husband got a cold but I didn't, I wonder if I passed the germs onto him?

Some people are soo selfish, why don't they cover their mouths?

TubbyTubster · 09/10/2018 10:09

YANBU it’s disgusting. Spitting too. I have noticed how many parents let their young kids sneeze and cough in public without making any attempt to cover their mouths, so gross. I always wear a scarf and passive aggressively cover my nose and mouth when anyone around me is snotting away! Usually gets the message across.

MissEliza · 09/10/2018 10:12

It seems like a 'new' thing. I don't remember people doing these things years ago. I know that makes me sound like an old lady! Next time that happens I will say something.

YANBU and don't start me on the women I see in public toilets that use the loo and walk straight out of the door without washing their hands. Disgusting!! I make a point of raising my voice to my kids to "DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS, THEN WE DON'T SPREAD GERMS" and make sure the dirty sods that are walking through the door with crap on their hands hear me!!

I hate spitting too Angry

When people cough and splurt near me, (without putting their hand over their fat gob!) I literally want to punch them square in the jaw.

It's vile and foul.

One time me and DH were out in the high street, some scabby woman coughed really loudly, right in this bloke's face. He spat at her. Actually went on her chin ewwwww. Me and DH were like Shock

The woman was in shock too, and wiped the gob off her chin. The man glared and said 'you share your fucking germs with me, I share mine with you!'

She scurried off quickly.

MissEliza · 09/10/2018 12:31

It's vile and foul. Absolutely. I actually felt dirty after being coughed on. I totally agree about hand washing too.
Dh was in the gym (David Lloyd) several months ago and he saw a personal trainer use the toilet and not wash his hands. He complained to reception because that guy would be putting his hands on lots of equipment. Ew! He said the receptionist didn't look too bothered Hmm

YANBU.

Mushroomsarehorrible · 09/10/2018 13:29

I get stabby when people sneeze on the train, even when they cover their mouths. I know I'm BU but some people sneeze in the loudest, 'wettest' most dramatic fashion, I imagine their germs flying all over me !

When I sneeze, I do everything in my power to contain it, I do it quietly, too Halo

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 09/10/2018 13:35

I cough a lot due to asthma and do cover my mouth but sometimes a cough or sneeze comes too quickly for me to be coordinated enough to rearrange what I'm holding. I try to cough/sneeze into my arm or elbow but sometimes it's not possible.
So, I do agree that people should cover their mouths but just presenting the other side. Not washing hands after using the loo is unacceptable though.

LuvSmallDogs · 09/10/2018 13:40

Yeah, I get what you mean LadyFidget, the start of a coughing fit catching you out while juggling stuff is one thing, having a really hearty hack while not trying to catch it is another.

Eh Confused

If you are experiencing symptoms of asthma and out in public, always have a hand free. It's really not that difficult to coordinate. I suffered with asthma for years, sometimes v badly, there was never a time when I couldn't cover my mouth in order to not cough / sneeze over people Hmm

Ineedsharesintravelodge · 09/10/2018 13:51

Not coughing and spluttering but just as bad - was in a supermarket queue and the woman behind me was a bit grey in the face, leaning heavily on the checkout counter and generally looked unwell, she also picked up some of my shopping and moved it forward so she could put her own shopping on the belt. Her shopping consisted only of several packets of diarrhoea tablets . Am assuming she had the squits/vomiting bug, but WHY come into a supermarket when she had another adult with her who could have popped in and picked up the medication? And if she really had to come in, why touch someone else's food shop? Made me want to leave behind the items she had touched at the checkout, though I did the polite british thing and chucked it in my trolley anyway (none of what she touched was unpacked food).

jenniferazp · 09/10/2018 13:53

It drives me crazy when checkout staff cough and wipe their nose with their hands then touch my food !

Confused

I'm not sure I get this Confused, I suffer from asthma and even if a sneeze comes on quickly I can still manage to cover my mouth in time.

midsomermurderess · 09/10/2018 14:24

It happens all the time. Why can't people cover their mouths!

MissEliza · 09/10/2018 14:25

A lady in M and S the other week repeatedly sneezed over the ready meals on the shelf. Actually now I think about it, I can think of loads of examples of appalling hygiene that I've seen in public in recent years.

YANBU, my husband was laughing at me as I was making disgusted faces at the bloke sneezing everywhere at the antenatal clinic last week. Gives me the rage.

SnuggyBuggy · 09/10/2018 14:29

I always find myself sneezing when my bloody hands are full Blush

BestZebbie · 09/10/2018 14:30

Tbh I'm also not a huge fan of people who do cover their mouth but then touch everything and everyone with their damp germy hand. Sneezing merely with head turned away into the unoccupied corner of the room would probably have been better!

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 09/10/2018 14:37

Have you never had to carry several bags of shopping Mushroomsarehorrible?

sexnotgender · 09/10/2018 14:38

If your hand gets wet and germy then you go wash. Sneezing germs everywhere isn’t a better alternative.

SnuggyBuggy · 09/10/2018 14:39

Well unless you are next to a sink you have to touch stuff before you wash your hands anyway

ohshitonit · 09/10/2018 14:49

To be honest if you know you have a cough and cold you should be carrying tissues or antibacterial hand gel to use when you've coughed onto your hand if in public. As a mum to premature babies we used to be housebound over winter because of selfish dirty people. It makes me cringe because my 2.5 year old knows to cover his mouth, so when an adult doesn't do it I am just disgusted.

MissEliza · 09/10/2018 15:03

I sneeze into the fold of my arm
