If a teacher has been off sick for 3 weeks with no idea of return date should the parent be informed?

For context this is a specialist school for asd. The class now has a supply teacher.

Dd is upset and has mentioned teachers absence a lot over the last few weeks. I appreciate everyone get ill and I hope she feels well enough to return soon and absolutely do not want to know why she's is off, totally not my business but I would have liked to have been told by the school what is happening and who's covering he class etc?

The issue is that the school often won't know who is covering the classes until that day.

As a teacher, no, I don’t think you need to be informed. Given your Son has ASD and is at a specialist school, I can understand your concern but still think it is in the ‘none of your business’ category.

Also, keep in mind that the school will also only have limited information and may not know anything about a return date yet either. That is the nature of some illnesses.

@Uncreative thanks never though of it like that!

We have just had so many bad experiences with schools I am a over cautious I guess.

I really hope class teacher returns soon my dd adores her and she is brilliant at what she does.

The teacher may only have a 2 week sick note at a time but the school may suspect that she will be off for longer, so don't want to give a return date. It depends on what is wrong with her.

I am off sick at the moment. I have had a 2 week paper initially and then 4 weeks. I have broken my leg and o am not sure when I will be back. I am hoping it will be during the last week before half term but I have to wait to see the orthopaedic consultant first.
No one in work knows when I am going to be back in work and the teacher covering me has been there since I did it so there is no issue with who is turning up. I am in a Secondary school so different to your situation.
It must be unsettling for your child but the school do not need to tell you what is happening. I wouldn't be happy for parents to know my business.
