Its my sons first "school" party all his nursery class have been invited. Its a little girls party.

I havent got a clue how much I should spend with out looking too cheap or being a stinge bag or being completely over the top.

I have seen this from argos its a polly pocket tiny set.

I am going to pick it up later and get some sweeties and a book or sticker book from poundshop.

Does this sound ok? AIBU? am a being a stinge?

£5 tops.

PicnicPie · 08/10/2018 20:09

Sounds perfect. I have 2 DDs and they'd love that present.

MeAgainSparkle · 08/10/2018 20:10

Not at all stingy OP. I’m a great lover of the 2 for £15 offer at Argos

Teabay · 08/10/2018 20:10

I add a £1 box of Maltesers to my ~no more than £7 as I think that's plenty~ birthday presents. They make a very satisfying rattley noise and children love them!

cricketmum84 · 08/10/2018 20:13

Sounds perfect to me. We usually say maximum £10 and aim around £7 mark unless it's DDs best friend in which case we spend a little more .

PillowOfSociety · 08/10/2018 20:14

That’s a great present, and £5 is fine Smile

FingerLickingGod · 08/10/2018 20:16

The present from Argos is fine. No need for sweets and sticker book as well.

noenergy · 08/10/2018 20:18

I am aim for £5. With 3DC there r so many parties and it gets too much.

Homebargains is great for presents and cards.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 08/10/2018 20:22

That's plenty Smile and certainly would go down very well with dd who's that age!

bokkleorandoove · 08/10/2018 20:24

£5-7 is fine however I bought my dd one of those tiny Polly pockets and they’re crap. You barely get anything in it.

UserName31456789 · 08/10/2018 20:27

I live in a wealthy area and both of mine have had presents in the range of £3-15. Most people are of the understanding that it's a waste of money to drop loads of money on presents for these parties. The kids will have a huge haul anyway.

NoUnicornsToSeeHere · 08/10/2018 20:28

I aim for something that looks like it cost £10 but actually cost £5. Keep a stash of things hidden away from sales.

EK36 · 08/10/2018 20:32

I only spend £5 on school birthday presents.

anniehm · 08/10/2018 20:34

I used to spend a fiver when there was lots of parties - stretched to £10 once it was down to only a handful a year and for good friends.

cheminotte · 08/10/2018 20:38

£5 is fine. I will spend more if there are fewer people going iyswim.

Dollymixture22 · 08/10/2018 20:38

Lovely present. I might order some myself! Thanks for the idea

Niri1 · 08/10/2018 20:38

At that age they love any present that has a toy or book and crayons. She will love it, don't worry. Also, children and gifts get more expensive as they grow. So don't go overboard to early otherwise there will be no where to go in terms of what to buy them in the years to come.

kitkatsky · 08/10/2018 20:39

Omg it's fine! I regularly pick up two for £10 from the works presents and have spares in wardrobe for last min presents! I wouldn't spend £7 tvh!

SoftSheen · 08/10/2018 20:39

Sounds perfect.

SAK1976 · 08/10/2018 20:40

Sounds like a lovely present

Atthebottomofthegarden · 08/10/2018 20:41

Sounds fine. We’ve always spent £5-£10, or a little more for very close friends only.

ohlittlepea · 08/10/2018 20:43

That is fine, but it doesn't need to be that much. I buy things in advance when I'm offer like the nice Melissa and Doug sticker books. If I ask my daughters friends what they would all like is slime or a squishie 🙈 but easy to obtain for 2 quid.

underneaththeash · 08/10/2018 20:55

That's fine. We're very well off and my children go to private schools, in reception we had a present cupboard that had gifts from maybe £5-10 in them usually bought in the sale.

DialsMavis · 08/10/2018 20:59

Thats perfect.

I always get 2 for £15 from argos

Bumbledop · 08/10/2018 20:59

Perfect. What a lovely present.
