AIBU?

Scrambled eggs for breakfast every day - cholesterol

DP has started having scrambled eggs for breakfast every day. He has two eggs scrambled with a bit of milk, but no toast. He's 44, a little over weight but not much. AIBU to worry about his cholesterol if he's eating 14 eggs a week? I genuinely don't know if this would be an issue, but it does seem like a lot to me.

I think they’re a lot less worried about the eggs and cholesterol thing now. 14 a week is a little high, BHF says 7 a week but other sources said up to 12

I think it is ok if filling a keto low carb diet as he will be burning off the fat as energy.

Eggs raise HDL (the good cholesterol) in most people which in turn helps with the overall cholesterol count.

2 eggs a day is fine, better than a bowl of sugary cereal and many other go to options that people take no notice of...for eg. Belvita breakfast biscuits are just pure shit but the poor eggs get that bad rep !

Eggs are a brilliant source of essential vitamins and minerals. The effect on cholesterol is minimal, but scrambled egg every day is a perfect meal. But, lose the milk, it makes eggs soggy. Substitute a knob of butter, which is also better than low fat spreads as they contain all sorts of trans fat rubbish and additives that are basically engine grease.

I have two or three every day and have done so for the past few years. My cholesterol is 4.2, and I had a cardiology checkup recently which was fine.
Maybe he should get his cholesterol checked anyway...my MIL eats very healthily but hers was 8!!! It runs in their family.

The NHS states that there is no limit on the number of eggs
www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/eggs-nutrition/

There was a belief that foods containing cholesterol had a negative impact on blood cholesterol but that has been found not to be the case for most people.

I've got gestational diabetes and the dietician today said two eggs for breakfast is one of the best things I can have, she said it's fine to have it daily, although I might get bored. If he's low carbine he can have grilled mushrooms with them for extra fibre

I agree with MagicStar that the only way of being sure of your cholesterol level and whether or not you need to alter your diet / exercise is to get it checked.
A colleague and I were comparing cholesterol levels (like you do) and our levels were the opposite of what you would have predicted looking at us. I was the overweight chocolate eater and he was the healthy eating moderate exerciser. His total cholesterol was double mine ( i.e. 3.4 v 6.8) and my ratios of HDL / LDL were healthier too.

I was on holiday with a family of doctors - guess what they and their kids had every day? Scrambled eggs! I think the protein is good and the yolk food for your eyes. Maybe use one full egg and 2 whites?
Porridge is good to lower cholesterol as are other foods. A balanced diet and exercise (and good sleep), lessen stress where possible...

He’s fine on the eggs. Much better than weetabix and the cereal. Tell him to have granary bread rather than wholemeal as this is lower in glycemic index and better for heart health.
Eggs are not only low in fat but good source of protein

I have scrambled egg on toast every day for breakfast. It’s much better than cereal.

Eggs are literally the perfect food. Correct me if I'm wrong but they are literally packed to the hilt with vitamins, minerals, iron and nutrients which aid fighting disease.

Don't be worried :-)

Dietary cholesterol has no effect on blood cholesterol levels.

There is actually evidence that carbs (ie sugar) is the bigger culprit and that much of your cholesterol level is dictated by genetics.

Additionally, whilst heart disease and high cholesterol are correlated, causation is still in dispute and there is some talk that inflammation is the bigger risk factor.

My kids have x2 scrambled eggs each every morning, and are very strong and healthy. Other days porridge or seedy/granary bread.

Apparently the theory that foods containing cholesterol can cause high cholesterol has been largely discredited and it's now suggested that eating upto 3 eggs a day is fine and healthy.
