To do to the doctors

For sciatica? I am pretty damn sure this is what I have, it's affecting me most days now and I can't carry out tasks like hoovering without being laid up in pain. However I am concerned as to what they can actually do for it?

Thanks

They could maybe refer you for physio and offer some strong painkillers, worth a visit

Bombardier25966 · 08/10/2018 13:48

Check if you can self refer to physio in your area.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 08/10/2018 13:49

It's definitely worth seeing your doctor. If you haven't actually been diagnosed with sciatica then first you need to confirm that's what it is.

osa20 · 08/10/2018 13:49

Another vote for physio! There may be a self-referral site.

Jakethekid · 08/10/2018 13:49

Are you currently pregnant? Became in the pregnancy notes folder there's a whole sheet of info to contact the physio directly.

Either way, you should contact someone.

Jakethekid · 08/10/2018 13:50

Because* not became

Have a look on the NHS website as there are exercises you can do which really help. I've had to go to my doc for it in the past when the usual things haven't worked so it's not silly as I've been prescribed stuff I couldn't get OTC. If it's something that you get a lot then some physio is probably a good idea too, just speak to the doc if you can't self refer, mine gave me the phone number the last time I was there so I can contact them any time I need to in the future.

SpoonBlender · 08/10/2018 13:50

YANBU. You need a referral from a GP so unless you're willing and able to pay for physio directly...

Velmasglasses · 08/10/2018 13:56

Definitely see if you can self-refer for physio, if not then see the Dr for a referral. You might want to get some strong painkillers too, I find what's available otc has no effect at all on sciatica! Good luck!

SeaToSki · 08/10/2018 13:59

Look up sciatica nerve glides and try them at home to see if they help, but your GP may have good advice too

beeefcake · 08/10/2018 14:04

Thanks guys, I think I will go ahead and book an apt. The only painkillers which seem to work are cocodamol which ideally I don't want to be taking all the time, nothing else touches it
