we used to hunt for faries and elves in the woods. we went several times and found nothing, but one day i bought a handful of fairy and elf figurines and wrote a few notes. hid them around the woods, and the kids were delighted. time consuming but it was really fun for all of us

EnglishRose13 · 08/10/2018 18:04

I love this idea and I'm following with interest.

We try to turn everything into an adventure and look at life we the same amazement as our two year old.

For example, we needed to pop out in the car just as it was getting dark so we went on a hunt for the moon.

Going for a walk is actually a monster hunt (we've yet to find one!).

I'm definitely going to do the fairy/elf thing.

speakout · 08/10/2018 18:05

I'm a witch so it comes quite naturally!!

Bubblysqueak · 08/10/2018 18:08

My ds's have built a fairy garden in the corner of our garden. They've drawn doors on logs and tree stumps, have made houses out of plant pots and have collected conkers and pine cones to decorate. They plant wildflower seeds in spring time too.

HugeAckmansWife · 08/10/2018 18:11

DD has a fairy door in her room. Occasionally her own personal fairies drop by with a note about something she's done Well and some glitter in a little bottle.

LittleOldWineDrinker · 08/10/2018 18:14

We used to have a little hedgehog soft toy that would find a new hiding spot each night. Every morning the first thing the kids would do was go looking for the hedgehog. It went on for months before they got old enough to figure out it was me moving it each night once they were in bed.

Klostro · 08/10/2018 18:16

My gran used to have a china hen on her windowsill. You could lift its top and under it was a dish.

Some mornings the hen would have laid a surprise. Some mornings not 😊

Alpacanorange · 08/10/2018 18:17

I’m too cynical to invest in this so apologies in advance. I though you meant “magical” as in happy, bright type time and I would have more fun. I find fun a lot of work and get stuck on “doing” instead.

Didntwanttochangemyname · 08/10/2018 18:20

We went hunting for dragons recently, didn't see any but I think it's because they didn't like the apple DS was holding.

Regular Gruffalo hunts, and we often count all the dogs we've seen a day and then name them all.

arethereanyleftatall · 08/10/2018 18:22

By lying really.
Mostly by fairies. They have a fairy door, and write letters quite frequently to fairies. They are painstakingly returned, sometimes very creatively with little presents, purchased via Etsy. They love it to be honest.

cinders15 · 08/10/2018 18:24

I had handed down to me a material advent calendar, in the shape of a christmas tree, with 24 pockets in it
So we told my DD about the christmas fairy, and if she was good, every day in December she would leave her something special in one of the pockets .... sometimes we had to say "oh - she hasn't come yet - she must have got caught up with the other children in the area - she will come soon" and nip upstairs and try to put something in the pocket without being rumbled!
I passed this on to a friend when my DD got too old - and hers were the right age

Unfinishedkitchen · 08/10/2018 18:27

Nothing really, being a child, learning and seeing new things is magical anyway. We sometimes bake, make things and play games but I don’t feel under any pressure to constantly make memories for DC and they seem to be happy.

HeyMicky · 08/10/2018 18:29

I always say "Shazam!" and gesture at automatic doors as we approach.

I pretend to talk to animals. And also beep back at the car parking sensors as if we are having a chat, "Yes, we are home again."

Anytime the kids can't figure out how I know something for have heard something, I tell them it's magic. I also have read them The Witches and sometimes say my wig is itchy or that they smell like dogs droppings.

1forsorrow2forjoy · 08/10/2018 18:34

My daughter is obsessed with elves. She has so many and wanted them to move every night all through the year. I couldn't cope with that so they went on holiday and a very kind group of Facebook friends have been sending her postcards from her elves from around GB and the world. It has been amazing seeing her face every time a postcard arrives. This will be a summer/autumn she never forgets!

1forsorrow2forjoy · 08/10/2018 18:36

She also has 4 fairy doors around her room where her fairies leave her letters and presents

turncloak · 08/10/2018 18:39

DH and I take it in turns every night to set up DDs stuffed animals in different positions in her playroom. Every morning she wakes up and goes to see what her 'naughty babies' have been up to in the night. Sometimes they're doing a jigsaw, sometimes they're dressing up, sometimes they're abseiling down the bookcase. The scenarios seem to have gotten more elaborate as time goes by.
She's 3 and I'm 99% sure that she's humouring us with her suprised face every morning. She knows it's us.

insancerre · 08/10/2018 18:40

I work in a preschool
We have fairy milk delivered by fairies ( it’s normal milk with the tiniest bit of red food colouring
We also have shark milk sometimes which is blue

I have been asked for dinosaur milk but haven’t worked out what colour that should be

Wheresthel1ght · 08/10/2018 18:41

Love this!

Birthdays are engineered by the birthday fairy

We hunt for hefalumps and woozles in the woods

My dad has dd convinced that elephants make nests in trees and that you can tell how old a tree is by how many people it takes to hug it

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/10/2018 18:43

englishrose13 we got the figures from here x link, i think we got 2 packs can't remember where the elves were from!

tethersend · 08/10/2018 18:43

When they wake with nightmares, I suck the bad dreams out and blow good dreams in through their ears.

I’m not sure it’s magical, but they go back to sleep quicker Grin

RedHelenB · 08/10/2018 18:46

Dinosaur milk needs to be green!

cardibach · 08/10/2018 18:48

I tend to think the real world is magical enough. Look around you at nature!

PurpleMac · 08/10/2018 18:50

insancerre green for dino milk!

Elllicam · 08/10/2018 18:53

I pretend the car is haunted.

DramaticGoose · 08/10/2018 19:00

My granny had a tea cosy in the shape of a chicken, we used to collect our breakfast eggs from there. She also used to put food colouring in the bath.

I haven't done anything magic for my ds yet. I think I should! Thanks for reminding me to.
