Celeb Cookery books. Have you got lots and do you use them?

I haven't got any. My daughter has a couple of shelves of them. These two facts might be relatedSmile. I'm not a great cook and cook mostly average stuff that doesn't need a recipe. How much use do your cook books get?

I have 2 hairy bikers ones, the med one I use quite a bit. Also have an early Nigella one and a Rick Stein, both have given me recipes that are now in monthyl use if not more. I recently bought the Itsu one, as I don't know anything about Thai/Japanese cooking, and I have picked up about 4 recipes from that which i am enjoying a lot.

The best one though is STEWED! by Alan Rosenthal, I use that a lot, it's fab!

I have loads, I love cooking though. James Martin for treat days (butter galore!) but I have loads of others too.

longwayoff · 08/10/2018 13:52

Am astonished I've never heard of Stewed. And I think I do need that one. Made a beef stew on Saturday and even the dog looked askance at me when offered some. I certainly wouldn't have offered it around.

@Longwayoff I am evangelical about that book to the extent that after I bought it, I bought every family member one for Christmas!

I have enjoyed revisiting 'unfashionable' recipes like Coq Au Vin or Carbonnade, as he adds slight twists to make them lighter and easier to make, as well learning some new easy ones. I got it out just now to remind me of the author's name and am drooling over the recipes!!

I love Tamasin Day Lewis's Cooking Bible. I also love Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries.

I have loads of celebrity cook books but rarely use more than a couple of recipes out of any of them on a regular basis.

Love the Hairy Bikers Mums Know Best book, use that one lots. Also the whispers it Netmums cook book which even has some easy meal planners in.

Mary Berrys Christmas book is brilliant

pollygreen7 · 08/10/2018 14:41

I have at least 4 nigel slaters, all which i use for new recipes a few times a year plus regulars we cook. I love his recipes as they don't use an extortionate amount of ingredients. The only Jamie Oliver we have left is the Italy one, I moved the rest on as they use so many ingredients. Also love Delia's Christmas. I have Ottolenghi Jerusalem for that day in the future when I'm not so busy with DC and actually have time to cook...

kerryleigh · 08/10/2018 14:55

I love cooking and baking, but I have only few cook books - fewer than 10 I think. The Best Ever Book of Bread, 1 Darina Allen book, 1 Rachel Allen, 1 Jamie Oliver, 3 or 4 non-English
I have a copybook with handwritten recipes since i was in my teens Smile and a big lever arch folder with recipes printed of the internet

kerryleigh · 08/10/2018 14:57

I use them. Even If I'm not following a recipe to the dot...looking for ideas. I get bored of cooking the same,, so I'm looking for variety

EdinaMonsoon · 08/10/2018 15:13

All of Nigella's books. I cook at least 3 dishes or more a week from them (including puddings/cakes). Also like Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries but since watching his TV show I find I get irritated when I read it because all I can hear in my head now is his Alan Bennett-esque voice.

I have a few of Jamie Oliver's cookbooks but the only recipe of his that I use regularly is Jool's Favourite Stew (which is also my favourite stew Grin )

Drivemecrazy1974 · 08/10/2018 15:45

We've got several - a lot of the Jamie Oliver ones, I do think his are the most accessible recipes in that you don't need lots of fancy ingredients. Also have a few Chinese recipe books by Ching He Huang, and a couple of Hairy Bikers and Gordon Ramsay books. Use them a fair bit too, especially Jamie's.
My husband is on a mission at the moment to cook the perfect chow mein, never quite tastes the same as a Chinese takeaway but I am enjoying the different versions every weekend!
I'm a bit of a sucker for a recipe book (as long as it's not much more expensive than £15!). Also, makes for an easy present if people can't think what to buy me at Christmas or birthdays!
