Where has my post gone Re: colleague wanting me to work Christmas Eve?

I posted earlier today to get opinions on a situation I am experiencing at work. Since I posted I've been out for the day and have just returned to find out my post has been taken down.
I'm not sure what the problem was, but when I've tried to view the thread it just states that mumsnet need to look into what has happened. Can anyone enlighten me? I'm intrigued how my dilemma caused offence or any other problem.

Still stick to your guns about xmas eve off. Broken record stuck on repeat if needed

Of course it was a bloody wind-up! Some silly poster thought it was serious and ended up getting the whole thread deleted.

There were hundreds and hundreds of posts on it, birdy, with a unanimous verdict of you telling her to do one!

Since the person claiming to be Sue didn't NC if someone shares their username with you then you could search their posting history to see if it sounds like the real Sue.

I didn't see Sue's username, but maybe someone else grabbed it

Bonus is though if the poster was Sue she's previously posted that she's separated so she won't now need Xmas Eve off for her anniversary 😉

You’d best email MNHQ about it or report your OP.
I assume ‘Sue’ wasn’t your colleague’s real name?

I saw the previous thread and agree with the general consensus that you should stick to your guns and keep, the holiday. She can’t expect to have Christmas Eve off every year, and you are fully entitled to have it with your family,

why did they delete the whole thread?

Don’t offer to do half a day as she will ring in sick and you’ll be stuck working the full day.

SausageOnAFork · 07/10/2018 20:36

What? A poster pretended to be Sue and MNHQ thought it was real and pulled it?
It was obvious it was a joke.

If anyone bleats at you about poor sue just say well my two poor children have missed out the last two Xmas eves and they are so excited to have me home. Or ask them if they want to cover her shift if they are so concerned. Don’t do a half day.

happypoobum · 07/10/2018 20:53

Oh dear. Well I posted on the thread that was pulled. I am sure you should have the benefit of my wisdom Grin

What I said was - if you get a load of shite from colleagues or managers saying how sorry they feel for CF Sue, just suggest maybe they would like to work Christmas Eve so she can have it off. That should shut the fuckers up.

Before this TATT gets zapped you are going to get hundreds again saying don't do the shift or even half a day. Stand your ground.

I had time off approved and booked tickets to travel to America to see relatives, one who was very ill. My office Sue tried to tell me I had to work her shift as I didn’t have kids and should work Christmas.

Erm nope Sue yes I’d worked the last 5 Christmas shifts doesn’t mean I have to work the next 20

I think you’ll find this one disappearing too but you had unanimous support. I’m assuming you didn’t use real names but I suppose the circumstances might be identifying. The consensus was that if you gave in this year it would happen every year, you had done your bit and it was her turn.

Report
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/10/2018 21:12

Also, people advised you to be ready for her to pull a sickie and for you to be expected to cover, so suggested you book something that couldn’t be cancelled, had a few glasses of wine, basically made yourself unavailable for work if called in.

I used to book a panto every Christmas l wasn't working so that l couldn't be asked made to feel guilty to come in . Not just the reason why l booked the panto but it did the job! Smile Good luck OP FWIW I don't think you should do it either , it is her turn.

@Birdy65

I don't know why the whole thread had to be pulled tbh. Some poster (this-is-the-end or some such name) did come on it, and claimed she was Sue, and said she had actually pretended she was married with children to try to get the time off, (when me and a couple of others pointed out that she said she was single on another thread.)

She started to get arsey, (when she realised she had been caught out,) and accused us of stalking her, and then the thread was deleted.

I also said to you, that I know someone whose mum died on Christmas eve, and he tried the 'I am entitled to the whole of Christmas off because my mum died on Christmas eve' line for quite a few years. They tolerated him for maybe 8-9 years, as they felt sorry for him, but they started to tell him that he can't do it anymore.

He took the piss. LOADS of people have lost someone near Christmas.

But yeah, it was a unanimous response...Tell Sue to do one.

It's not at all funny when people pretend to be the person talked about in the thread, so it's a shame your thread was deleted because of that. However, there were multiple pages of the same answer so really what more is there to say?

@Birdy65

The poster purporting to be 'Sue' had the user name of thisisthend and I put that into advanced search and came up with three threads. The first two, where she was the original poster, were one near the end of September and one earlier today; they were about being stalked and mentioned historic mental health problems.

Most importantly in the earlier one she said she lived alone, which is the reason I quoted her post to prove that if this poster really was 'Sue' then she would hardly be wanting to celebrate a wedding anniversary any time soon.

The latest mention of her just listed her 2 contributions to your post today. This part has now been deleted from the results of the search. I imagine MN must have picked up on my post and acted? Possibly for the mental health aspect?

I'm so sorry if this led to your original thread being deleted and I hope MN see fit to re-instate it, albeit without my contribution if they see fit.

From what I could see everyone else was posting their total support for you. As do I Flowers

OP, I’m somewhat new to AIBU but even in the last 6 months I’ve never seen everyone reply unanimously!

My suggestion what to have a story ready for when your boss calls after ‘Sue’ calls in sick. Be 3 hours down the motorway to wherever, say you’ve just pulled into Gatwick parking for an Xmas abroad, whatever.

Report
HollowTalk · 07/10/2018 21:44

I agree with the PP - say you have a holiday planned. You won't be in the area. After Christmas you can say the people you planned to visit were sick.
