Fed up of no houses on the market...

Finally ready to buy a place and there are no houses on the market. Spending a fortune on rent and have been looking for a place for 6 months. There's just nothing out there. Literally, nothing. When I was looking a couple of years ago and daydreaming about buying my own house, there were tonnes of properties up for sale.

Do we think it's likely things will improve? I know nothing about the housing market but I'm struggling here... Sad

If it was in trouble, surely the market would be flooded and no one would be able to sell?

Not necessarily. Those who don’t have to sell (eg those who would move for lifestyle reasons rather than overcrowding or needing to relocate) are likely to do what they did during the last dip in the market, and sit tight.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/10/2018 18:50

Wouldn’t say it’s in trouble then, just static.

MrsStrowman · 07/10/2018 18:50

@ThroughThickAndThin01 the market gruffly is sluggish because people are waiting to see what happens. So people who need to move will, others won't. They don't want to sell at current prices and then the market picks up again in a year or two, or vice versa, buy somewhere new and end up in negative equity post brexit. My DB and SIL were considering moving this year but have decided to leave it at least two years, they've a new baby due and wanted to have a new house for that, but they do have three bed currently, just the third is fairly small, that won't matter for their 2 DCs for a good few years so they've decided to wait it out and see what happens. We are home counties though so the London market has a knock on effect. I know some markets in the North are doing reasonably.

Ok, static then. Just me that's in trouble! Grin

Sorry, just realised my message could be read as flippant...

I meant, given that I’m sure you’ve (been obsessively) checking Rightmove and there must be nothing on it, there’s probably nothing I can do to help, rather than ‘don’t blame me if there isn’t anything on RM’

😁😁

What areas are you looking at OP, out of interest?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/10/2018 18:56

Well good luck! Hope something turns up for you.

AutumnGirl78 · 07/10/2018 18:57

Hi op
weve just decided to put our house in the market early next year in april
I noticed rightmove is quieter at the min and as a pp said often people hold off till spring

Im waiting to see what happens with brexit...house prices etc and we have personal reasons for waiting but after Christmas i expect to see more movement in the markets

Good luck

Does DH have a blue badge? If so does that mean you can apply for a disabled parking spot outside a Home You bought?

KinderBueno5 · 07/10/2018 19:04

Not at all @A0001 it was a genuine wave! Smile I love Norwich!

@A0001 we like Earlham (and I will be working at the university) so it makes a lot of sense to live there as the traffic can be awful getting in and out!

There are loads of the very expensive houses sitting on the market here south east. They have been in the markets ages and seem very over priced. I think the markets due to crash myself.

KinderBueno5 · 07/10/2018 19:06

@RandomMess he doesn't, no. I'm trying to get him to get one but he refuses to. It's a fairly recent issue and a whole other thread! Definitely a pride/denial thing...

Perhaps point it could be the gateway to a home due to parking!
