To think this isn't panic attacks?

mallap345 · 07/10/2018 10:39

I don't know what's wrong with me.
The last few days my problems are back.
10-15 minutes before I leave the house my heart starts skipping beat after beat and I begin to have a hot sweat..I leave the house and feel like i need to run to where I'm going,I'm sweating and my heart is racing and skipping beat after beat.
Then I get here and 5-10 minutes it just stops.
Yesterday was the same and I had 7 hours in my grans fine ..5 mins before I was due to leave it started again.
This morning I woke up terrified because I knew it was going to happen,my hands were icy cold and I felt sick,I was shaking and then bang the skipped beats began and I was sweating.
This can't be panic attacks can it?
I've never heard of people getting skipped beats with panic attacks.
When this starts I need to run or go somewhere but I don't know where,I start screaming and crying sometimes too.
I hate it.

Low blood sugar levels?

Does sound more like panic attack though.

Holidayfromreal · 07/10/2018 10:42

It sounds like panic attacks in my not at all expert opinion. I have suffered from panic attacks and one of my main symptoms is palpitations or skipped beats. Also unfortunately panic attacks can be self perpetuating so you had one or two, associated then with leaving the house and now have a panic attack because you think you are going to have if that makes sense?

mimibunz · 07/10/2018 10:44

Sounds exactly like panic attacks. They can mimic heart attacks and leave you feeling a terror you’ve never known before. I take citalopram for my anxiety. Have you seen your GP?

Stephwiththecurls · 07/10/2018 10:51

Do you drink tea/coffee in the mornings?

I used to get panic attacks with shaking, sweating and palpitations including skipped beats all the time - often out of the blue even when I wasn't worried about anything. In my case it was almost entirely down to caffeine - I gave up 4 years ago and it hasn't happened since (except once before a job interview!)

Stompythedinosaur · 07/10/2018 10:53

It sounds like a panic attack!

Bombardier25966 · 07/10/2018 10:54

Haven't you posted about this before OP? If I recall correctly you have health anxiety?

LaLaLamp · 07/10/2018 10:57

Agoraphobia?

ginandnappies · 07/10/2018 10:58

Sounds exactly like my panic attacks. X

Stephwiththecurls · 07/10/2018 10:58

Oh yes and I also had the needing to run thing! The incident that made me relate this to caffeine was one morning where I had 3 cups of tea in the morning and didn't eat, then cycled to work and went straight into a meeting. Suddenly I felt sweaty and nauseous and had an urge to run or scream or throw up, it was really weird. I found myself running into the kitchen, dissolving several spoons of sugar in hot water and necking it - it's like my body was telling me to do it.

It worked though! So must have been low blood sugar, caused by the caffeine.

FaithInfinity · 07/10/2018 10:58

The key question is..are you anxious? Does your heart actually skip a beat? Have you checked your pulse during these episodes?

ShizeItsWeegie · 07/10/2018 11:00

Thats the state I used to get in before I realised I was peri menopausal. Panic attacks with added value basically.

justilou1 · 07/10/2018 11:01

You could also consider getting your thyroid levels checked hyperthyroidism mimics anxiety or panic attacks. Have you lost any weight lately?

AnotherOriginalUsername · 07/10/2018 11:03

Sounds exactly like a panic attack, especially given that there is a common trigger (going outside?). If it were something physiological it would happen at any time

AnotherOriginalUsername · 07/10/2018 11:04

And palpitations are a huge panic attack symptom

EeeSheWasThin · 07/10/2018 11:07

It does sound like panic attacks to me...my sister had them for a time and was taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack with the first one.

Might be best to see the GP. Don’t think “it’s only panic attacks” and you can’t go to see them as it’s clearly very upsetting for you.

mallap345 · 07/10/2018 11:16

I've posted before yes ...I had 4 good days where it went away then had a bad day and got upset and it returned.
I've had all tests for doctors and I am actually having the skipped beats (or extra beats ) as the doctor calls them but there's nothing wrong with my heart so they've been put down to stress /anxiety.
I don't drink any caffeine.
I feel like I'm going out of my mind with it.
I always have a tight choking feeling around my throat too.

Had my thyroid and potassium /magnesium checked and all ok.

mallap345 · 07/10/2018 11:18

I think what scared me was my cbt therapist a couple of years ago didn't know what a slipped beat was and said she never heard about them ..so I thought if it was a normal symptom she would have known.

OP posts:
mallap345 · 07/10/2018 11:20

Before this started happening really bad I was having extra beats most days (only a few ) plus the choking feeling and then I felt like when I was out somewhere alone I couldn't eat or drink because it felt odd..as if it wouldn't go down.
Then sometimes when I'm walking the floor suddenly feels like it drops down low(like when the lift drops ) then I went through a time when I felt like I wasn't getting enough oxygen and I had to yawn.
Every morning I wake up terrified and within 15 mins I need to go to the toilet.
I struggle to think it's all anxiety..there's just too much happening.

FruitofAutumn · 07/10/2018 11:23

why would you think it is NOT panic attacks sound exactly like them to me?.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 07/10/2018 11:24

@mallap345 it all sounds like anxiety (which is reassuring in a way, that there's nothing physically wrong, especially given the level of investigation you've had). The symptoms vary hugely not just from person to person, but even in an individual. The best bit is that it's treatable and you can overcome it with the right help and support.

AnyFucker · 07/10/2018 11:25

Are you on anti anxiety meds ?

Might be worth talking to your doc about adding in a beta blocker

That sounds just like panic attacks

mallap345 · 07/10/2018 11:26

I've tried beta blockers (propranolol) and made me feel awful.
Felt sick and exhausted and like I wasn't really there.
I'm waiting for my therapy but I just have this feeling that the doctors are missing something.

Undercoverbanana · 07/10/2018 11:26

Yes - mild anxiety attack symptoms. Consistent triggers suggest anxiety too.

mallap345 · 07/10/2018 11:28

Lately I've been obsessively checking things like the doors /cooker etc
Everything has been getting too much for me lately.
I'm under so much stress,to a point where a couple of times I've scratched my face.
I was thinking maybe I had pmdd but I don't even know anymore.
