I’m planning to make personalised baubles for my friends’ children this Christmas. I’d rather have their name inside the bauble, because I figure if it’s stuck on the outside it will wear off quite quickly (especially as it will be a very amateur attempt!). Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to do this? What I’d ideally like is for the name to be ‘loose’ inside - i.e. not stuck to the inside wall of the bauble. I’d love to do something like in the attached photo, but not sure how I would get the names printed out on the appropriate material?

TIA

If you do it with ceramic pens and bake them it should stay...I made my parents mugs a few years ago and the designs only faded after about a year of daily washing...but you wouldn't wash a bauble.

If there's a hobbycraft near you there'll be lots of stuff and the staff are usually very knowledgeable (mainly art students in mine!)

You could get beads with letters on and thread them onto a piece of jewellery wire which you could attach to the top of the bauble?

Thanks both.

Camomila - I’m planning to use plastic baubles because I’m cheap on mat leave and trying to do Christmas as thriftily as possible! So I don’t think that would work. But it was a good suggestion.

I think pangolina’s suggestion may do the trick...

Could you just print the name on thick paper and cut it out with a sharp scalpel? It should hold the shape then whilst being flexible enough to get into the bauble.

Write the names onto a piece of clear plastic that you then put inside the bauble?

These baubles in hobby craft open apart:

So you can open them up completely, out what you want in and close them up.

If you bought those laser cut names in the post above from Etsy, a packet of sequins in hobby craft when you get those baubles (or maybe somewhere like the range might be cheaper) it'd be a very thrifty way to do it!

Go to Dafont.com > Script Fonts and type the name out. It will show you a preview in every font, so browse around until you find a nice one which works (preferably quite thick). Then simply take a screenshot of the design and use that as a template. You can print it out and carefully cut out the shape with a scalpel, then trace onto coloured paper/card. A bit fiddly but saves you time & money ordering laser-cut pieces :). The hardest bit might be resizing the screenshot so it's exactly the size of the bauble. Without a graphics program (eg Photoshop) you may have to trial and error and few times by printing it out on paper, seeing if it fits, then adjusting the size onscreen and repeat.
