To think tax credits are wrong?

I'm a single mum with an 11 month old.

Resigned before I went back to work and have been on ESA for a few weeks now. My entitlement for Child Tax credits is only £82.63 a month

I understand I'm no longer entitled to working tax but I'm confused about the child tax only being £82...

I've done the calculators and they say £200+ a month?

I know they're often wrong but surely they can't be that off?

Child tax credits only increase when you're in full time work afaik.

Which income is this estimated on? Your current income or your previous years? Have a look on your account online. You need to make sure they have your estimated current income for now.

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/10/2018 13:07

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream has probably got the answer. It used to be the case that child tax credits were calculated on the basis of your previous year's income (ie when you were working). You could apply for it to be calculated on current year's income if your income drop had been more than 15%.

Allthewaves · 06/10/2018 13:15

Is it being based on your least years income? If your income is significantly less this financial year you can ha e it based on an estimation but this does risk overpayment if you estimate wrongly

lookatherwow · 06/10/2018 13:37

Well if it is based on last year's income, that doesn't make sense. Because I was getting much more last year but still over £500 in tax credits ConfusedSad
