To have just lost my shit at DP

One of our fish died overnight. DP removed the fish from the tank with a kitchen utensil which he then didn’t rinse, just put straight in the dishwasher.

I’m pregnant. This isn’t the first fish that has died recently so something is wrong (we are looking at that). AIBU for totally losing my shit at him? We’ve no idea if there is a virus etc that is killing the fish.

Now the dishwasher is on and any germs are now all over everything.

Am I overreacting (hormones!)?

I thought he'd put the fish in the dishwasher! Glad you've chilled out a bit and hope you can laugh about 'Fishgate'. Pregnancy hormones make us all a bit bonkers at times.

You are supposed to use the dishwasher to wash toys, toilet seats, dog utensils, rinsed off potties etc as everything will be sterilised afterwards.

Keep apologising and finding avenues where you can vent your anger safely because you don't want that type of toxic behaviour in your family life whatsoever or it will poison it.

WTF?! People seriously put toilet seats and pottys in their dishwasher?

longwayoff · 06/10/2018 11:28

Er. Step too far with the loo stuff but thanks for the handy household tip. I expect you're right and would be fine but just, yuk. Feeling for you now OP!

CheeseGirl4 · 06/10/2018 11:33

Above and beyond dishwasher sterilisation, fish in tanks die very, very easily - a slight variance in PH level, temperature, overfeeding, introducing nitrates or nitrites when you top up the water level, blocked filter etc. The chance of the fish dying from a disease which is transferrable to humans is very, very small.

SnorkFavour · 06/10/2018 11:38

YWBU but kudos to you for realising it and the dishwasher will sterilise it anyway, you'll be fine Wink

Plus, most animal diseases don't transfer to us.

Good luck with the pregnancy FlowersFlowers

Yes, you can use the dishwasher as the word STERILISE is the key!

People also use the dishwasher for smelly trainers, and to thoroughly clean household items like scrubbing brushes, the dustpan and brush, dishcloths; and garden items like pots, and outdoor children's toys like buckets and spades.

Whisky2014 · 06/10/2018 13:07

I've never heard of dishwashers sterilizing...yes they use hot water but I'm dubious. As is google apparently.
But even so, i wouldnt care if a utensil had been used to scoop a fish out of water had gone Into the dishwasher with other stuff.
