How on earth did these end up being a must have kids toy? My dd is begging me for one and they just seem like cheap tat overpriced! If I can't find one for xmas she says she'll have to give the power to Santa! Grin

My daughter has 9- why do they just split in half so quickly? I realised yesterday that’s like £75 worth of crap

IStandWithPosie · 05/10/2018 18:56

Does it have to be a particular one? My DS got some for a couple of £ in a bargain store in town.

batouttawell · 05/10/2018 18:58

Japan!
Some factory worker mixed up the stress ball formula too weakly and instead of throwing the batch away marketed it to kids.

They are massively expensive factory rejects!

ShadyLady53 · 05/10/2018 18:59

The Works have them in interesting designs for pretty cheap. I find them invaluable when working with children with SEN and behavioural needs.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 05/10/2018 19:01

9?! Omg. I just looked on amazon and some are a tenner. @IStandWithPosie she saw one in Wilko she wanted and it was £7-I said it was too much and since then she wants me to find a similar one- pink cat that smells- cheaper! I have seen one on amazon for £7 but it looks better than the wilkos one! It's just a fad though isn't it? It will break or she'll get bored like with fidget spinners!

Kids have liked crap like that forever

You can get them pretty cheaply (I’m told by my Brownies anyway!) so I would let her have a couple of cheap ones. My Brownies especially like the scented ones!

JuniperBeer · 05/10/2018 19:02

There has been some stuff in the news recently about them being banned as they contain harmful chemicals- be careful what you buy

YouWereRight · 05/10/2018 19:17

Around here there are market stalls selling them for between £3 and £5.

Children have always loved shite. I'd have loved them as a child.

Fridaydreamer · 05/10/2018 19:38

DD has a huge melon one tgafcsge saved for. It’s bigger than her head and cost £17!

She has about 25 others that she saved for ranging from £3-£8 each.

She loves them and they’re better than slime so that’s a win.

Fridaydreamer · 05/10/2018 19:38

‘tgafcsge’ should say ‘that she’

Littlebluebird123 · 06/10/2018 07:56

@Fridaydreamer

You're right, I'd take them over slime any day!

TeamSpirit · 06/10/2018 07:59

Advised against them in Denmark because of chemicals in them. Just binned a small fortune! But all of them has bad chemicals in them. All of them.

milkysmum · 06/10/2018 08:24

You can get them really cheap on Amazon. Like 30 pieces for less than a tenner.

Thirtyrock39 · 06/10/2018 08:28

You can make one with a balloon and some flour- really easy and fun for the kids and they do feel strangely satisfying
Blow up the balloon and then let the air out
Use a funnel or similar to full with flour
Tie up
Sharpie on a face and tie some ribbon round the tied bit for hair

LudoFriend · 06/10/2018 08:57

Yeah, another one saying be careful. I threw ours out after establishing the links to carcinogens. But they weren't my favourite toy due to how badly made they seem to be.

Tillylantern · 06/10/2018 09:02

I got rid of them all from my house. Theyre not worth the risk.

We've also binned all of ours after the Danish EPA report. It doesn't seem any of them are safe, regardless of where you buy them from.

There were tears but the thought of new toys at Christmas got them through it.
