Disgusting. From the word DISGUST.

How, I mean just how, does anybody think it is spelt/spelled (choose whichever you prefer) discusting Confused

I'm not normally pedantic but this one really rattles me Blush

Why does it matter? Very few people will be doing it on purpose to piss you off and theres obviously a reason they arent as well educated as you.

Dis-gust => gusto = taste--

Discuss -> discutere -> discourse

This is defiantly one of the more rediculous spelling mistakes, makes me want to loose my shit Grin

buscaution · 05/10/2018 18:51

Why is it the only misspelling that disgusts you? Though, to be honest, it’s hardly a stretch to understand how people think it’s spelt discusting.

I don't know why it bothers me. It certainly does disgust me though.

It doesn't matter. I acknowledged I was being a dick way back. I didn't think it had anything to do with being educated. I dropped out of school at 14 and haven't done anything academic since.

But then you'd also have to be not reading much to not be realising how words are spelt.

This is an interesting comment, if it wasn't for the fact that due to the internet and smartphones people read more now than ever, I would be inclined to agree.

Well, no-one is proofreading mumsnet for spelling mistakes, so it's not the sort of reading that helps with picking up correct spelling and grammar.

notgivinga · 05/10/2018 18:57

I have skimmed this thread but haven't noticed anyone mention 'sleeping with the angles' yet Smile

catinboots9 · 05/10/2018 19:06

DISCUSTED is my fave word. I only tend to use it when I am fumming.

buscaution · 05/10/2018 19:09

That's just it though, there are loads of threads where people do just that. Whatever the reason for it, there must be some who read something and think 'oh, I thought that was X' and go check for themselves.

Of course there is more than just Mumsnet for people to read.

I really hate 'his' for 'he's' as in 'ahh his so cute hun'. I know it's not a big deal and I know what the person means but it really annoys me for some reason!!

Mousetolioness · 05/10/2018 23:31

People who complain their refuge bin wasn't emptied. I clarify 'So, your refuse bin was missed? 'Yes, that's right, the refuge bin.'

Normaknowall · 06/10/2018 00:19

Free reign and reign it in instead of rein. Formally instead of formerly, myself, yourself instead of me and you -losing battle there though.

Pet hate? "He was sat/stood there." Aargh.

I apologise for being this irritating but couldn't resist this thread!

Katedotness1963 · 06/10/2018 02:12
