Posts are getting too long to read

Posts are getting so long. That's all. Confused

OP posts:
IdaBWells · 05/10/2018 05:32

I am guilty of being an almighty waffler! Some opening posts are SO novel-like however that they asking too much from the reader, especially with hardly any paragraphs!

Totally agree Monty

Havaina · 05/10/2018 05:50

Possibly because so many people are quick to call any further posts drip-feeds.

There was a thread yesterday that I DNF because it was so long, although I felt very sorry for the OP.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 05/10/2018 06:13

YANBU.

(Short enough? Grin)

MissusGeneHunt · 05/10/2018 06:13

Guilty of that in my replies sometimes. Am queen of unsuccinctness... (if that's a word!). YANBU

Notabee · 05/10/2018 06:15

I’m guilty.
That said I don’t want to get accused of drip feeding.

Thisgirlcant · 05/10/2018 06:36

"Long story short" Then thee longest post!

Zoflorabore · 05/10/2018 06:38

Agree op but- some people can't win then.

If they keep it short there is a danger of missing some vital information out and then they are accused of drip feeding.

Other times the op is used like a diary entry.

SnuggyBuggy · 05/10/2018 06:41

Anything short of an entire life story is considered a drip feed by some people

IFeelSorryForMillie · 05/10/2018 06:42

gawd, read it or don't read it. There are plenty of other people capable of reading more than a tweet.

tinstar · 05/10/2018 06:47

I agree. Not necessarily the op, but some responses are so long they kill the flow of a thread. Tend to be because people want to describe their own experiences at great length rather than offer real support.

TheOrville · 05/10/2018 07:15

It doesn’t seem to matter how long or short the OP is as there is always someone who can’t read it.

OP: my 4 yo DS...
User: how old is your DS?

ResistanceIsNecessary · 05/10/2018 08:37

Don't read them then.

This is a feature of posters being flamed and accused of drip-feeding because they didn't include every tiny detail in their OP.

CoughLaughFart · 05/10/2018 08:40

Whatever happened to attention spans? Is this a symptom of the age of texting and 400 channels? I cringe when I see comments like ‘tl;dr’. If you can’t handle a couple of paragraphs I doubt your advice is going to be much use.

SnuggyBuggy · 05/10/2018 08:49

I've never seen the point in posting that you couldn't be bothered to read, why bother to post then?

Lethaldrizzle · 05/10/2018 11:19

I agree op. If a poster can't tell their story succinctly, I'm out.

LikeIcare · 05/10/2018 11:22

Some people are just very self-absorbed.

Doyoumind · 05/10/2018 11:25

I can be very wordy but I do try and edit before posting. Very long posts without paragraphs do generally lose me unless I can tell early on I might have something of value to add.

Even this response is too long 😂

Lizzie48 · 05/10/2018 11:27

This wouldn't happen so much if OPs weren't so often accused of drip-feeding. (I absolutely hate that, I think they're just moaning because they like nothing better than a good old AIBU pile on and the OP has spoilt their fun.

Clearly the OP just isn't allowed to win. Grin

DontCallMeCharlotte · 05/10/2018 11:35

Also down to voice dictation perhaps? Mine are shorter if I'm on my phone but can be longer if I have a proper keyboard.

frogface69 · 05/10/2018 11:40

I don't mind a long post, but I just can't read it if there aren't any paragraphs. I have a slight learning difficulty.

Botanicbaby · 05/10/2018 11:50

tl:dr YANBU

I hate those long opening posts especially if they are about something utterly banal - the “should I eat this yoghurt that I took out of the fridge 49 minutes ago? Will I DIE?” type rubbish.

The posters who do the whole tl:dr thing BUT they stupidly put it at the very bottom of a long post that you’ve just scrolled through with gritted teeth. You’re meant to put it at the top, you fools!

PhilomenaButterfly · 05/10/2018 11:51

So what do you want us to do? Confused

KathDayKnight50 · 05/10/2018 11:53

Long post including all important details and at the end a bullet-pointed summary would be a nice balance, I think.

Lydiaatthebarre · 05/10/2018 11:54

Yes I agree that a lot of opening posts are incredibly long and I do click off a lot of threads because of this.

However, given the increasing amount of nastiness on MN I understand why OPs feel the need to cover all angles, explain everything and give lots of backstory. Otherwise those who can't wait to pounce will find an opening, however small, and will proceed to rip the OP to shreds, while their mindless sycophants pile in.

These annoying posters are really ruining AIBU.

PhilomenaButterfly · 05/10/2018 11:54

I still don't know where you put new paragraphs.
