To collect a parcel from my old rental

I accidentally selected the wrong address for one if my Amazon deliveries and it's gone to a house I stopped renting 2 months ago.

Would it be ok to pop by on the off chance they're in and apologise and ask for it? Or should I do the lengthy process of asking the landlord etc?

I know it's in the "safe place" from the email note and I need it today so I'm half tempted to just pop and grab it if they're not in. But that seems so wrong.

Pop in grab it but leave a letter with number letting them no if there not in

AllMYSmellySocks · 04/10/2018 12:32

I wouldn't mind if someone did this to me. I would knock on the door rather than just grabbing it from the safe place in case someone sees you and thinks your a thief.

MsHopey · 04/10/2018 12:33

Go down. Knock the door.
If No one's in take it from the safe place as long as it's not breaking and entering.

UpstartCrow · 04/10/2018 12:33

If you paid for it and its addressed to you, how can it be wrong?

Wolfiefan · 04/10/2018 12:34

Depends where the safe place is. If it’s inside a property you no longer have any right to be in then no. If it’s in a public space then I would collect it but leave a note for the new tenant.

Tinty · 04/10/2018 12:35

Go and get it, else they may return it to sender.

Foodylicious · 04/10/2018 12:35

If you have a text/email then there has likely been a card pit through the door too.
I would go soon if you can.

I had this when I moved house a few years ago and went to the house later in the day for the current occupants to deny all knowledge if it. Thank fully it was a small value item so I did not bother persuing it

AGHHHH · 04/10/2018 12:37

I can't see a problem with knocking and asking for something meant for you?

Darkstar4855 · 04/10/2018 12:37

Go round and knock, I would also take some id so you can prove it’s definitely yours.

LittleTechGirl · 04/10/2018 12:42

Thanks, I'll pop by - the safe place is by the back door so it should be out for me to grab. The neighbours all knew me so the shouldn't worry about a thief! I'll leave a note with my forwarding address in case they've had any post for me too. Just got to pluck up the courage as I feel really awkward about it!

Back door as in in their back garden? It’s nit your property. You can’t enter into the back garden.

peachgreen · 04/10/2018 14:39

I'd be a bit annoyed if old residents wandered into my garden! But wouldn't mind you knocking at all.

BIgBagofJelly · 04/10/2018 14:42

I think it's fine. Knock first, if they're not in just grab it and leave a note.

DunesOfSand · 04/10/2018 14:46

If ypu are renting from me, please leave the land lord out of it.
I'm 3000 miles away, and really can't do anything other than suggest you knock on the door.
Go give it a go, and leave a note appologising for yoyd mistake if they arent in.
