To think this was out of order

About 2 hours ago 14 year old DD came home in tears, she was walking home, got to the traffic lights up the road from our house. There's a pedestrian crossing there however there was only one car there which had stopped so she crossed anyway. A man came out of the car and started shouting at her for not using the crossing properly, he grabbed her arm so she tried to get away and he tightened his grip. A lady also crossing the road stopped him and guided her away from him, she walked her home since she was going in the same direction and helped DD explain to me what happened. I realise DD probably should have pressed the button and waited, she said the lights were green so i assume the man hadn't noticed, but it still doesn't give him the right to grab her arm. Is it worth getting the police involved?

It was a hell of an over-reaction so a word with your local PCSO might be in order.

Aw hope she’s ok!! I would be fuming on her behalf - it’s never ok to grab someone!! 😱

Kaykay06 · 03/10/2018 19:23

Speak to police, makes me wonder what would’ve happened if the woman hadn’t been there tbh. Your poor daughter must’ve been terrified. She perhaps was in the wrong but doesn’t mean some random man (or anyone) should lay their hands on her for it makes me wonder what his motives are seems extreme for not pressing the button

Be concerned yes and say she should cross more sensibly in future but to do what he did is odd - def take it further

That's physical aggression (don't know if it's classed an assault?) - report report report. Did anyone note down the car make and model? The registration number? Or remember what the guy looked like? Or ask the officers to look for CCTV.

Also who the hell gets so worked up about someone crossing at a green light?!Angry quite normal for pedestrians to flout the rule and as a driver that why you need to be extra vigilant around crossings. At most I would expect a sharp beep at the horn but never someone coming out to grab you!

owabno · 03/10/2018 19:29

Of course phone the police. Are there any cctv cameras in the area?

ASauvignonADay · 03/10/2018 19:44

I would report to the police - definitely unacceptable.

Gingerninj · 03/10/2018 20:07

There's CCTV at the crossing apparently so hopefully that caught what happened

I'd think there was something more sinister behind his motives. That isn't normal.
Yes phone the police!

Theweasleytwins · 03/10/2018 20:37

Lovely that she was walked home

That must have been scary- far away from normal behaviour

Whipsmart · 03/10/2018 22:31

That sounds horrible and if the lights were green for him why had he stopped? I'd be suspicious that it was for this very reason - so she'd cross (because why wouldn't she?) and he'd have an excuse to grab her. Thank God that lady was there and saw what was going on! Angry
