So slow cooker dump recipes dont work in an electric pressure cooker?

Is that right? I threw all the ingredients for chilli in the instant pot as i would be able to dump them in a slow cooker. When I returned thry were all separated as i had left them. Does that mean that for some things a slow cooker is actually beyter than the electric pressure cooker?

No slow cooker recipes won’t work in a pressure cooker. They are 2 very different cooking tools.

A slow cooker uses low heat to cook food slowly over a long period of time.

A pressure cooker uses steam heat and pressure to cook food quickly. The food is sealed in the vessel - when it heats up it causes steam & which pressure to cook the food quickly.

I think they should work but you would need to make sure you have 250ml of liquid, prob a bit more if tomato based. I dump all the curry ingredients in and cook on high pressure without any problems. I tend to sauté most other recipes but have dumped in chilli or bolognese ingredients when in a hurry.

An instant pot does slow cook though. The difference would've been what setting you put the instant pot on.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/10/2018 13:33

That's confusing!

An Instant Pot is a pressure cooker. So, whilst the ingredients would be similar the ratios would be different. But it would cook.

Did you turn it on? Sorry...

An instant pot is not just a pressure cooker, it's also a slow cooker (and other things) it depends what mode you put it in.

TheFifthKey · 03/10/2018 14:56

It's not going to stir it for you, no...but once you take the lid off and mix it together it should be just the same (better tasting IMO) than a slow cooker.

An instant pot is not just a pressure cooker Oh! I looked it up (as I wasn't 100% certain) and it sad pressure cooker. I probably should have read further... either way, something went wrong!

A lot of electric pressure cookers have a slow cooker setting, but the difference is that the pressure cooker is only heated from the bottom and the slow cooker is heated from all around. You usually won't get the same results, especially around the sides.
