Advice please - child swallowed 10p (already gone to a&e)

Petite 8 year old swallowed 10p.
Partner took him to A&E (drs advice). They x-rayed and said it's fine and should pass. Apparently they said not to worry about checking it has come out (not sure how we would anyway with school etc).
But should we be concerned if we don't know that it has? Although it's in his tummy, can it not get stuck between there and coming out?
Should we ask for another x-ray in a week or so? Not in a&e obviously.
Reluctant to google as I know it will terrify me!
Might probably over-reacting.

A colleague is just dealing with exactly the same thing.

Just let nature take its course. Your dc probably won’t even notice.

It should pass fine. If it’s in the stomach it had already passed through the narrower parts of the digestive system and will eventually come out. It can take up to two weeks. Any signs of Abdominal pain/dark stools etc then go back for a check up (Paeds A&E Nurse Wink )

As long as it is down through the oesophagus it will be fine. Two of my children have done this and had X-rays. Docs have been happy once it’s down into the stomach because it can easily get through the rest of the body.

Any change yet?

ShutUpBaz · 03/10/2018 12:55

My 8 year old DS did this recently. On a Sunday night when NOTHING is open except A&E, which is where 111 sent us. He got 'metal detectored' with one of those thingys door staff use and a stern telling off from the nurses. We got the same advice re: the coin passing through and we have had no issues. As long as it isn't in the lungs, nature will solve it.

Son swallowed 50p! All fine and nature took its course!

People asked if he'd put on half a pound!

As @evilkitten says any change yet?

Bushellight · 03/10/2018 12:58

Great. Thank you. X

He's still quite "oral" but we thought he'd got past putting non-food items in his mouth. Apparently it smelt nice so he put it in his mouth? Hmm

I swallowed a metal ball when I was 4. It clinked loudly in the toilet as it passed. My dad still speaks of the relief he felt when he knew it was out. Soon you too will know that relief.

Charlie97 · 03/10/2018 14:18

@Bushellight he was older (18) and playing some stupid drinking game 😔

Charlie97 · 03/10/2018 14:18

@CuppaSarah that's funny!!!!

SoyDora · 03/10/2018 14:21

This happened to DD1 (a 1 Euro coin, she was 3!). We were given the same advice. We never saw the coin pass (I didn’t look to be fair!) and it was about 18 months ago so assuming all is fine.

MrsJayy · 03/10/2018 14:22

I swallowed a big square button when i was about 7 (I was a clothes sucker) as far as im aware it did pass . I think he will be ok

taratill · 03/10/2018 14:54

they are only interested (A&E) in batteries and dishwasher tablets (chemicals) anything else will pass through without harm.
