In thinking there just aren't enough public bins? Especially dog poo bins?

Nobody likes dog mess on the floor. I'm a dog owner and it makes me see red. I hate it. There's zero excuse for it.

I think if we had more dog poo bins around it would really help curb the problem.

Every time my dog poos I pick it up with out fail but then I hate walking around with a steaming bag of shit. On residential streets there's just no bins until you get to outside a shop. Rarely dog poo bins.

You can't use people's personal bins so you have to carry round a hot, smelly bag.

Poo collecting is part of dog ownership and ifnyou aren't prepared to do it you shouldn't own a dog but I also think more could be done to help facilitate poop disposal.

For instance, I take my dog to a playing field, it is HUGE , and there is just one dog poo bin at the entrance. That's it.

So people throw the bags into the bushes and undergrowth, I don't agree with it, but I can see why some people do it when if you are walking through you are faced with either carrying a shit bag or walk ing back to the entrance.

Obviously more bins would incur costs for instalment and rubbish removal but why not have 6 months of real enforcement of dog poo fines to raise the money.

There's signs everywhere saying £1000 fine for letting your dog poo but I've never seen it enforced and there's shit everywhere!

I'm really sick of my kids standing in dog shit and just seeing it.

I think it's time we added more bins and a stricter enforcement of fines. AIBU?

Get so sick of these comments that turn into a general dog bashing and dog-owner bashing thread. No one can express any concern about lack of bins without being insulted or someone just being plain rude.
Council bins get used for more than just dog poo.

Plenty of dog owners, myself included have no problem picking up poo and indeed I often pick up random dog poo not done by mine and we also get cross with irresponsible dog owners.

JuliaJaynes9 if you spent time actually reading people's posts then you might realise that I have no problem with the fact that dogs defecate, I would just like somewhere to put it once I have bagged it up as required by law, instead you twist what I have said.

JuliaJaynes9 · 04/10/2018 20:36

Why do you expect the council to provide a receptacle for your dog's waste?
why can't you just take it home with you?

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 04/10/2018 21:57

Please can the dog-frothers just give it a rest? You hate dogs and their owners with a rabid passion - we get it - but there is nothing to be added to the debate but just telling everyone to get rid of their dogs

I think the vast majority of posters are saying clear up your pets poo, that's all. I like dogs but won't have one as I couldn't stand picking up poo. Owners who don't, shouldn't be allowed to have a dog, there's no excuse beyond laziness and being selfish.

AlmaCogansFrockFan · 04/10/2018 22:00

Julia, you do realise that domestic dustbins are provided by the council.......

PunkrockerGirl59 · 04/10/2018 22:08

I don't hate dogs LaGatta
Lack of bins? So it's the council's and everybody else's responsibility to deal with your dog's bagged up shit?
Not a chance.
Your dog, your dog's shit, your responsibility. End of.

I don't think poo bins are the answer. The footpath leading from where I live to our local community centre is the length of two tennis courts. I know this because it runs alongside two tennis courts! There is a poo bin at one end and a general waste bin (with a sign saying you can put bagged poo in it) at the other. Everyone calls the footpath "dog poo alley" - because you have to dodge the poo. Some people are just too ignorant or lazy to pick up.

Tantrumschmantrum · 05/10/2018 00:12

Tbh I'm pretty peed off with cat poo too. They come and poop right in the middle of our small garden, I've witnessed it. I have no choice but to poop scoop it as my DC would step in it. They ought to microchip and DNA test cat poo too. Cats are also guilty. I'm tempted to buy a supersoaker, that'd teach em! Wink

Which will always be the case. You could have poo bins every other metre, with illuminated lids, and PIR sensors that play a message "if you have any poo, pop it in", as they automatically open, and there would still be people who walk on by.

It's not the councils fault. Not will it ever be. Personally, I'm a little fucked off that some of my council tax does gets wasted on poo bins that people don't use.

Racecardriver · 05/10/2018 11:15

They're quote unsightly. Of you are going to have an animal then you need to be prepared to deal with shit. Where I grew up you would have to walk about 500 metres to a kilometer before getting to a public bin. Dog poo on the streets was relatively rare because most dog owners were responsible and carried around bags of poo.

ohshitonit · 05/10/2018 11:27

You can see why people throw bags of shit into bushes?
YABVU.
If my baby shits himself in the park I change his nappy hidden behind a Bush or something and then carry his nappy in a nappy bag till I find a bin. I would never throw it somewhere. How filthy.

JuliaJaynes9 · 05/10/2018 12:04

Maybe all the ickle fur babies should wear nappies?

JuliaJaynes9 · 05/10/2018 12:05

Pet companies would love that
imagine the profit they could make from selling nappies to dog owners

JuliaJaynes9 · 05/10/2018 12:05

I mean fur baby mummies and fur baby daddies

MargaretDribble · 05/10/2018 12:23

Juliajaynes really? I have a Springer spaniel, not an apology dog.

GladAllOver · 05/10/2018 12:27

Dog poo bins have to be provided out of the general council tax budget, and someone has to be paid to go round empty them. It all costs. And the bins themselves are not exactly attractive features in a rural landscape.

I'd far rather that dog owners bagged the stuff and took it home. And as for the people who leave bags of dog shit hanging from trees. WTF?

IrianOfW · 05/10/2018 12:28

Lokisglowstickofdestiny - you only have to read the last page or so to find people who really really do seem to hate dogs not just their shit.

No, of course you are probably still going to get dog shit lying around even if there are more bins available, in exactly the same way you are honig to get littler lying around even if there are litter bins available. Some people are dirty inconsiderate buggers whether they own dogs or not.

DGRossetti · 05/10/2018 14:46

Semi seriously, why not just have a law that all dogs in public should wear one ? (I admit my knowledge of canines is probably approaching zero from the wrong side, so if there are practical considerations I haven't considered, you don't need to tell me I know nothing about dogs ...)

JuliaJaynes9 · 05/10/2018 18:10

in days of yore when we had horses not cars I believe something like this was proposed to deal with the nuisance of horse manure.
(I appreciate that horse's doings are an order of magnitude less noxious than dog's doings)
