My child goes to a specisl school sp ir maybe different but it was just me and the teacher and we discussed his progress etc have you had a form to put down your views? It took about an hour

It will be structured around your child's objectives/ needs and discuss progress toward them, any new difficulties, what is working what is not, if there needs to be any additional medical support. Ask as many questions as you want, talk about any challenges you have at home.

It may talk about how the provision is working and if there need to be any changes.

Have you had a report outlining progress towards the objectives/ targets? New ones should be set in this meeting.

It's very much your opportunity to contribute to what is going on and raise any concerns or positives.

(At least that's my experience of them.)

What expharis said

Nothing to worry about. They are there to make sure right provisions are in place. Im on number 13 with ds orignially statemented, And about to start with dsd.
This is your oppurtunity to talk address your concerns what you think will help. You may only have a couple of people with you or you could have many. Once i head headteacher, educational physcologist, teacher, senco, speach and language theripist, co ordination theripist. And someone to take notes
They are there for you and your child.

Yes it should all be written up and you will get a copy. Any concerns about anything you must raise and get them recorded as they get reviewed every year.

Good luck! They're usually very positive.

It should be pretty straightforward.

Usually we go through the form and discuss which bits are still relevant/valid and which bits need to be changed.

Sometimes a target will have already been met and so a new one will be added. We discuss possible targets based on how things are going at school or at home.

Sometimes a target will need to be broken down further or otherwise adapted to make it more achievable. And there will be other times when my child is making good progress with a target but just needs a bit more time to achieve it.

There's a section about what outcomes the parents would like for their child, eg what you think they might want to do when they're older.

My child is a teenager so will usually join the meeting at some point to give their own thoughts and opinions. That may be different for younger children.

The invitation letter will often have a list of people who have been invited but generally the only people usually there at ours are me, the teacher and later my child. (This is a special school though so the SENCO would usually attend if it's mainstream).

Ours tend to be more of a general chat than a formal meeting.
