I have ADHD and really struggle to remember to take the pill every day. Or I just put it off and don't take it. I am the same with anti anxiety/ antidepressant meds, antibiotics - anything like that. It's weird and damaging I know - but it doesn't work for me. Also gained weight and was really moody.

I had the implant and bled constantly for four months, until I finally persuaded them to take it out. Wasn't even sexually active at this point, but still had to spend weeks persuading my surgery to do it. They kept trying to put me on the pill aswell to try and counteract the bleeding Hmm

Have heard some good, and some horrific things about the coil. Truth be told, I'm terrified about the procedure (I have terrible anxiety, and just thinking about it makes my heart race). Also scared that if I did manage to get it put in, I would have the same side effects as the implant, and would have to go through taking it out a couple of months later. If this is anybody else's method of choice, how was the procedure? Am I right in thinking there's a coil which doesn't contain the normal hormones? This is a big plus for me - I worry about weight gain; after years of being overweight, I've finally succeeded in getting down to (just) a healthy weight. Also, does this mean the constant bleeding is less likely?

Or the depot. I keep thinking about this. But I work in a GP surgery with over 20000 patients and less than 15 are on the depot. Seems a bit strange?

Just want everyone's thoughts really. I'm dating someone (have made clear I won't go any further without STI checks, and I'm not a big fan of condoms Blush) and am thinking about taking it further, but need to sort this first.

Copper coil. Its wonderful. Having it put in was fine (and I get anxiety around internal exams) as I took a combo of painkillers recommended to me by a midwife friend....I was slightly high!

To those saying the coil - did it make you gain weight?

Mirena...couldn’t fit it in the docs chair as cervix wasn’t right (4 c sections, age etc...) so had it under general so very little pain afterwards. Light spotting for a few weeks but no periods at all since - nearly a year ago...

Best thing I’ve ever done! I’m not in the UK though so had to have it down privately under medical insurance...

Cooper coil and my periods are fine. Not heavy at all. Only get a bit more period pain than before.

Currently just relying on condoms while dh makes his mind up about whether to have a vasectomy.

I had my merina out after a week ago after having it for a year. Having it put in was fine - a snapping pain for a couple of seconds and all done. I then had constant light bleeding for 3-4 months. Periods after that were minimal. Most women don't get them at all. My hormonal headaches went, which was life changing. Acne got very very bad and didn't respond to anything. Eventually I got sick of looking like a spotty teenager and got rid of it.

If you decide on a copper coil, get one fitted at a sexual health clinic, where they do dozens a day. They'll be more experienced than someone in a GP surgery and that makes a huge difference to the procedure. Mine was less uncomfortable than having a smear test. I took ibuprofen before and for about 2 days. Periods have changed but I LOVE not being on hormonal contraception (my libido is back 😁)
