To think having your hair cut isn’t supposed to hurt?

Had my hair cut yesterday by my usual hairdresser. Just a dry trim, to take a bit of length off and relayed my hair. My hair is just past shoulder length, so longish.

I often find her quite rough, so she’ll brush my hair with a lot of force (more than I would ever use). Yesterday my eyes were watering and I was wincing. She caught me wincing and apologised, by said ‘it’s probably your hormones making you sensitive’ (I’m heavily pregnant)

AIBU to think that a haircut shouldn’t hurt?! I like the way she cuts my hair, but I’m seriously considering switching as I hate pain, and it’s an ordeal having it done now.

Am I a wimp?

If you like the way she cuts it just ask her to be more gentle. I know it’s easier said than done but if she’s going to blame being pregnant on her being rough, you do the same and ask her to be more gentle.

Hair cuts that hurt are common for children with sensory processing disorder or children on the spectrum. Assuming that these things do not apply to you then I would say your hairdresser has no 'bedside manner' and I'd go for one with a gentler touch!

Definitley don’t have ASD or a sensory processing disorder.

I’m usually good with pain, don’t flinch when I have blood taken, gave birth without pain relief etc. But she literally puts the brush at the roots of my hair and pulls outwards, it’s bloody agony!

If you're a wimp, I am too and I'm not pregnant. It's the hairwashing I have to brace myself for - years ago it used to be my favourite bit, warm water and a bit of a scalp massage, but the juniors at the place I go now all have long (very beautiful) nails, they scrub away at my head when they're rinsing out the dye and I quite often get stabbed or scraped by a nail or three in the process.

Op it shouldn't hurt, she sounds like she is rough with you,

I would use a different hair salon

I've recently changed hairdresser for this reason. She was a lovely hairdresser and I always liked how she did my hair but my god, she was brutal when she was blow drying it, and kept pulling my hair. The last time I went in, I had to ask her to be more gentle but I don't honestly think she realised her own strength. I've gone to another salon and on my first appointment told them that I don't want it blow dried with a barrel brush as my scalp is obviously sensitive!

I just had hair done today by my lovely hairdresser and it hurt me - not to eye watering levels but when he brushed it before colouring and afterwards with blow dry. I just wanted it to be over with asap.
Some days I’m just more sensitive to it.
