If I said to you that a student of mine (yr5) had tried really hard today so I gave her a merit, would you have some idea of what that meant?
Dp is not well, so amidst the moaning and groaning, he looked at me blankly and said "I don't know what that is."
Really?

Ours were handed to us by the teacher who gave them and you had to hand them to your tutor in registration, MrsStrowman. It adds a long walk of shame to the process.

Although it’s just struck me how honest we must have been. I assume there must have been a system of checking that they actually got handed in.

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay I don't think they trusted us to do that, yellow slips would've gone missing and someone would've set up a black market in photocopied green ones 😂

To the PP who asked, "any more?" I remember fondly a school where I did a lot of supply work, where good work was taken to the head, who had a rubber stamp which made a "bonk" sound and left the shape of a star on the good work, so was innocently named a "bonking star" by the youngest children. (Brand new school) The name stuck as they went through the school as a habit, and nobody in the school setting thought anything of it. However, an older child transferring from another school asked if they had misheard, and when I mentioned it at home, I can't begin to describe the lewd hilarity the term inspired.

I’m surprised they trusted us. There must have been a system I’ve forgotten.

I’m not sure whether the Russian roulette system in the register or spending registration trying to figure out the best time to walk to the front of the class to hand the coloured slip in is worse. Although the conversation about how I’d managed to get a merit and a demerit for homework from the same teacher st the same time was probably better done quietly at my tutors desk.
