To think the boss is out of order

Dp started a job 3 weeks ago. Since then the company has told her manager that there are struggling to make profits and need to cut hours. The amount of hours they need to cut are exactly the amount of dp's hours do works. And that those hours are going to be cut evenly across everyone's hours if she does not resign. Her boss is putting pressure on her to leave and the other staff now are being not nice too. Because they know if she does not resign they will all lose hours. Basicly they are trying to turn the work force on each other and frame dp as the one responsible for cutting their hours. After all its a min wage job and most of the staff are mum's like dp struggling to make ends meet.

That is called constructive dismissal and she should go to citizens advice.
That is horrendous and she needs to keep track of all of these conversations etc as it could end up costing that company a lot more!!! Terrible terrible way to treat anyone!!

If she started only 3 weeks ago, she doesn't have any protection against unfair dismissal, so the issue is in the company's own hands - they can simply get rid of her. I don't understand why they're trying to make her resign. I'd advise her to look for another job in a company which doesn't treat its staff like that, and meanwhile sit tight.

I'd agree with MereDint, I don't know why they are actually bothering with this nonsense. I'm assuming they currently don't realise that she has no protection against unfair dismissal but at some point they will and your DP will be out so I'd suggest jobhunting pronto

CAB won't be able to help. After only 3 weeks in 5his instance he has no protection.

Not being harsh but if it's minimum wage they'll be a thousand more jobs out there. If it was me i would tell them I'll be leaving as soon as I've found a new job to go to. Once they know she's on the way out i would think they'll stop being such dicks about it and give her a glowing reference! She doesn't want to work there anyway they sound horrible.

Unprotected after only 3 weeks, Kitty. Do your homework. The company could just give her a week's notice (or contractual notice, if there's a contract). I don't know why they're trying to make it so complicated.

Its a nonsense and I don't know why they are going about it this way. It's just making the place very uncomfortable for her to work at as the other staff now see getting her out as the only way to protect their hours. I'm not sure if it's just plain incompetence or is there is a darker inner logic to making her a scapegoat? I just don't know why they employed her in the first place if they were going to need to cut hours/staff? And why not just say as she's in her 3 month probation period we don't need you any more, here's your p45 and a good reference? I'm gutted for her because she was loving the job and now she hates going into work because of the atmosphere this has created. We're she lives there are not tones of jobs offering school time hours and tones of people looking for them. She fought really hard to get this job. She should hang in there, shouldn't she, even if everyone hates her for the company cutting their hours. She can't not to anyway. Her benifits won't be looked after if she's seen to walk from a job.

Yes she needs to stay until she finds something or else she will come unstuck with benefits.

Sounds like there’s more going on that they are letting on. Or they are completely stupid....:

They provide catering for educational facilities. But then on the other hand does it favour them to have more staff working less hours covering the same amount of tottal staff hours? The cynic in me wonders if this is all part of a game to erode everyone's hours and sense of job security but make dp th fall guy. I don't know but it's iffy and very unpleasant for dp.

If they want her to leave they should let her go. She needs to say she's not resigning because she won't be able to claim benefits.
