To feel pretty damn proud of myself

I have had bulimia for since I was 14, I’m nearly 27. I realised today that I went the whole of September without binging/purging. And didn’t even notice. Before that the longest i’d ever gone was about 6 days.
AIBU to want to shout it from the roof tops that I might finally be getting better after it ruined so much of my life

Well done you, that's a great achievement. Wishing you all the best in your recovery, sounds like you are well on your way Flowers

RedPandaMama · 01/10/2018 22:19

That's amazing. Well done OP!

I feel proud of myself because, as a recovering on-and-off bulimic of 8 years, (recovering as in - I binge but don't purge so am now fat!) after reading your post I realised I have managed to get through today not only without binging but also without wanting or needing to! DP is working away and baby is sleeping and it is around now when I would usually be twitching to do it and wouldn't be able to think of anything else. But I'm fine. Smile

It's a hard thing to kick. Go you!

Tinkergirl1970 · 01/10/2018 22:19

That’s amazing, you should feel really proud of yourself

Babyshark2018 · 01/10/2018 22:20

Good for you. That’s amazing! You can do it.

I had bulimia as a teen (although I never told anyone) and carried on with it probably until about 25- just on the odd occasion when I had binge eaten. It’s a vicious cycle. Then something just clicked and I told myself I would never do it again, especially now I have a daughter.

I think sadly it is more common than we realise as no one talks about it.

Thank you. For the first time in about ten years I feel like the end might be in sight Smile

You beauty!

That's TWO great achievements:

  1. going a whole month
  2. talking about it

Nice!

biggirlknickers · 02/10/2018 06:49

Superb!

You are strong, beautiful (all women are beautiful) and you will continue to channel your power for the good as you recognise how wonderful you really are.

2pointfourmonkeys · 02/10/2018 06:51

Amazing. Well done.

BrightLightsAndSound · 02/10/2018 06:57

Congratulations!!!!!!

I have been suffering with intense phagophobia for nearly 2 weeks (not body image related, anxiety related, the feeling of being physically unable to swallow anad choking). It progressively got worse to the point of being unable to handle soup and my weight was plummeting at a terrifying pace.
Something happened last night and I managed to eat a bowl of pasta, cereal and biscuits.

I know its not really the same but this experience has really given me so much respect for people with anorexia and bulimia - people dont talk about it, but it seems like a real mental battle with yourself.

You're going to feel so much better now both physically and socially.

And you have the proof that if you slip up, its okay. You stopped and you can stop again.

lastqueenofscotland · 02/10/2018 07:54

Thank you all. Just got to keep plugging away at it
