..In not wanting to wean early?

Should possibly have posted this in the Weaning section but am too annoyed and need a rant!!

I'll (try to) be brief. Ds is 5 and a bit months old. He is bf on demand, anything from every 2 to every 4 hours during the day. He wakes up x1 at night for a feed, or sometimes sleeps through from 10:30 til 7 (rarely but it does happen). He is happy, alert, active, gaining weight (not loads but steadily).

Then why ffs do family keep on and on at me to introduce solids now? HV is happy for me to wait until 6months. But the latest dire warning I have been given from family is that waiting too long could impede speech development and might mean he will resist solids later on as he will be too used to milk. AIBU? Someone please please please tell me if this is in any way evidence based or if you have experienced problems from waiting to wean yourself?

It makes me seethe, the barage of criticism you get as a new parent, it's endless, not just family either, old ladies come up to your child touch them and say their too hot/cold - my family try to force feed ddpuddings and sweets, thankfully dd prefers fruit ...to be honest I'm surprised your not potty training yet ...

I wonder if we'll be the same

Dawny you should not be made to feel bad for ff and I don't think anyone on this thread is suggesting that.

I think that the reason so few bf mothers are still exclusively bf at 6 months is largely to do with the appalling mat leave pay we get in Britain - I know several people who would have continued but they had to go back to work after 6m so had to start weaning at 5m. You have reminded me that I am bloody lucky to have this dilemma as I am not going back for a while yet. Not everyone has the luxury of time.
