AIBU to think supermarkets should cover their pastries

So I went to my local Waitrose today and thought I'd get a nice croissant or pastry.

There were flies flying around all the pastries and some were sitting on the actual pastries.

AIBU in thinking they should cover them with something so the flies can't sit on them?

I don't buy anything uncovered either. Even without the flies who knows whose dirty mitts have been on them, or how many people have coughed or sneezed over them.

I agree, it's gross. Not majorly harmful, but still gross.

It isn't what the flies eat, it's what they leave behind! And I don't mean tiny footprints. And then all those small grubby fingers picking things up, putting them back...

Actually, I don't think things have got any worse recently, have they? Certain foods have always been unwrapped - consider independent bakeries, greengrocers, fishmongers, butchers.

Well the last two should get washed and cooked before ingesting. And my DF insisted on washing fruit just before eating.

I don't buy food that's open and that people can touch, sneeze over and that flies can land on.
In Waitrose, I've seen a woman with a really heavy cold take a couple of unwrapped loaves, check them all over (really not sure what she was looking for!) and then put them back.
And again in Waitrose I saw a man pull out every single unwrapped loaf of bread and then put it back again. The staff didn't seem to care when I mentioned it.
Disgusting.

I raised this with bakery staff in waitrose she said people moan if they aren't left out.

I said maybe those people never see the pastries covered in flies. And that they need to take responsibility to protect the food. A new bakery section in another waitrose near by... Had it all enclosed and you slid the glass back.

It's not rocket science is it!!

Bloody hell Liz that's Vile. What is wrong with people.

@Fragolino I've decided that people must be just stupid !
