To be really confused about my interview?

I applied for an internal role at my company two months ago. I had my final interview two weeks ago; and was told an announcement would be made on Friday just gone.

I heard nothing on Friday Sad but decided this morning to pull my socks up and ask for feedback. My team is being disbanded for a central team; so the feedback would be useful! HR have replied today asking for a call next week to discuss; CCing in the manager who runs the centralised team replacing my current team.

I don't know whether to be hopeful; or throw myself into finding a new job. I don't really want to leave; but I can't afford to stall my career now... Any thoughts? I'm so impatient Blush

Hmm. Tough one. Could they have been CCd because they’re best placed to offer feedback as to what they were looking for? I assume they were on the panel?

TeddyIsaHe · 01/10/2018 10:19

I would personally think that if you hadn’t heard on Friday it’s a no-go unfortunately.

There’s no harm in job-searching whilst you wait for the feedback info. Especially if your team is being disbanded, it’s better to be prepared I always think.

Not sure you can read anything in to what they've said. A call next week could be "sorry you weren't successful, here's some feedback", it could be "fantastic, the job is yours", or perhaps "you've not been successful but there's another position we'd like to talk to you about".

Hope you get some good news!

I tried to keep the post simple; I hope it still makes sense!

No reason for the lady who is centralising to be CC'd - the job wasn't in her team, although my ideal job would be there - she's not yet hiring but competition for those roles will be fierce. A lot of us will either be made redundant or reassigned. So I went for a job that I can do; but isn't what I love (which the interview panel did know and reference, to be fair!)

It could be that as she's met me a few times; she's in a position to offer feedback on ways I can improve, that's true.

Thank you both!

Sounds like they just haven't made a decision yet. Don't jump too soon! Although it's never a bad idea to keep an eye on what else might be available elsewhere.

A call next week could be "sorry you weren't successful, here's some feedback", it could be "fantastic, the job is yours", or perhaps "you've not been successful but there's another position we'd like to talk to you about". Or it could be "the decision hasn't been made yet" or even "As far as we (HR) know the decision hasn't been made yet, so we're copying in everyone involved just in case someone knows different"

peachgreen · 01/10/2018 10:38

Honestly, it sounds me like they have a role in mind for you in the central team. I hope I'm not getting your hopes up unnecessarily but copying in the manager of the central team would suggest that.

BuntyII · 01/10/2018 10:39

I wonder if the job has been offered to someone else, but the person in question hasn't accepted it yet. That's often the reason for the decision to be given to you later than expected.

CaptSkippy · 01/10/2018 10:44

Just keep looking. If they offer it to you later you can always halt your job search, but if you wait until they answer you could be looking for a new job while unemployed. That's not worth the risk.

CinnamonVanilla · 02/10/2018 18:05

Just thought I'd update, although not much has happened yet -

I found out today that the committee hasn't made a decision on the job that I applied to yet; although the manager of Job B doesn't appear to be on the committee.

I'd already got used to the idea of not getting Job A, so I'm trying not to get my hopes back up... but an offer from Manager B would be a dream come true, so I'm hoping they offer me something!

Good luck, I hope they get back to you soon.

CinnamonVanilla · 04/10/2018 18:47

Thank you!

I've been invited to an "introductory call" with global HR next week; to "get to know each other a little better".

Bit baffled by that; to be fair!
