To want to watch my baby sleep all night

Just checked on my son, who's 12 weeks, before getting into bed and I could've sworn he wasn't breathing. I totally freaked out and kind of shook his chest, even then he took a few seconds to respond. He must be really deeply asleep as he barely stirred.

I woke my partner who said it's fine and I'm overreacting. I know I probably am and babies do that thing where they don't breathe and then breathe quickly. I'm just feeling freaked out. I worry constantly about sids anyway and now I literally want to sit and watch over him.

He's a really good sleeper and will probably sleep until around 6:30.

Full disclosure, he was diagnosed with a lung condition during pregnancy, although not sure what exactly until he has CT later this week. Doctor says it shouldn't affect his breathing in any way, but don't know if that's adding to my worry.

So would I be unreasonable to sit up and watch him sleep all night? Blush

I’ve done similar with ill babies. Then I realised I needed to get better sleep and got a movement monitor!

I've just ordered a snuza hero, I think the worry is going to drive me crazy otherwise

I’ve had the clicky breathing mat monitor with all of mine which has been fantastic.

where does he sleep? i had a next to me crib with my latest baby and it really helped with my anxiety. some nights i held her hand all night.
brand of crib not important but it sounds like you need the reassurance of having him next to you. There's nothing wrong with that, especially given the health complications.

I still put my hand on my DCs chests or my ear to their mouths to check their breathing sometimes, they are 7, 5 and 1!

I've got an angel care monitor. Only way I could relax and get some sleep. I'm a bit more relaxed with number two and have turned the mats off now she's 2, but if she's ill I put them back on.

So YANBU but I'm sure your son will be fine.

He's in a cot pushed as close to my side of the bed as I can get it, I can hear him breathing now so that's all good, just don't want to go to sleep, just in case.

He's my third so I really should've got to grips with this by now!
