Aibu to not tell my boss

Should you always tell your current boss when you apply for or explore other opportunities in same company? He is making my life difficult in terms of part time hours requested. Another, better, opportunity might be coming up soon in a different office. Nothing set in stone at this stage.

Would it be unreasonable to just approach another manager to see what other options are available? I don’t current boss to think I’m going behind his back.

It really depends on the internal recruitment process in your organisation

I'm mine-if any of my team apply for another job recruitment then send me a short questionnaire to 'endorse' the application and one of the questions is "has xxx made you aware they are applying for this role

Maybe check with the recruitment team if this is part of the process

However if a member of my team applied for another role and didn't tell me I wouldn't be annoyed but I would wonder if there had been anything I could have done to support them more

Good luck

I would absolutely assume they will talk about it. Can't you wait to see ifa job is advertised?

Are the other roles usually pt? If current manager knows that's what you want then no issue in telling them your planning on exploring these as they suit your needs better that is understandable and not much that can be said against that

The recruitment team may have their processes (whether or not they inform the current manager) but there is nothing to stop the new manager from having an informal word with the existing manager. To be safe, you should assume that will happen and give your boss a heads up as autumn suggests. That said, whether or not you get the new role, you will probably end up burning your bridges with the current manager in terms of promotions but perhaps you don't care that much.

Always a tricky one to apply for internal roles unless your organisation is so big (NHS?) that people do it all the time without blinking an eye.
