Weekend

What do people do at the weekend? My dd5 is moaning that we don’t do anything cool for her news at school but won’t tell me what other people do. This weekend we have gone to the park, went for a walk, made cookies and we are currently waiting for my Mil to come over. Just wondering what other people do as I can’t afford to be going to the zoo, farm parks etc every weekend.

We have done...
Friday night - went to pizza express, group of 15, which is 4 families with kids of similar ages
Saturday - dd1 had football match, rest of family watched, then dd1 & 2 had dance whilst I went to gym. Dd1 had a friend for a sleepover day night.
Sunday - dh playing golf. We're going round to family friends for a walk and dinner this afternoon. Then we'll all veg on sofa and watch a movie probably.

Don't stress about it, I bet all the other kids say exactly the same thing and at 5 there's a limit to the number of sentences they write anyway. Its like the one up-manship of the class bear coming home for the weekend. If you're the parent following the 'bear and I ate pizza whilst watching a film' you breath a massive sigh of relief and be grateful you don't have to follow 'bear and I spent the weekend on the Orient Express and sipped Coca Cola in Paris.

I think your weekend sounds lovely. If you can't afford stuff (and I know the feeling) just make the most of your environment, like walks in the park or countryside, wildlife spotting, making up silly stories of passers-by, cooking (like you already do) drawing, colouring etc. Don't get stuck in the 'we do more than you ' bollocks!! Homespun stuff will also teach your lovely daughter there's more to life than admission tickets! Has she come up with some ideas of things she'd like to do?

DD is 6 and has dance lessons which take up Saturday morning. Then spellings and homework worksheets that take up time.

We often have a lazy afternoon with DVD and popcorn. Or bake/craft.

Yday we went to the beach to fly her kite and walk the dog and got chips after. But well normally do a dog walk somewhere different.

Just about to sit down now with some board games

Your weekend sounds perfect. The thing is, sometimes people will do a lot and talk about it, other weekends they won't do as much but the children don't get exciting about talking about that!

Ours vary hugely. Trips out to the coast/parks, or children's sports events, sometimes I do housework or potter about while the children play Xbox and do their own thing! All of it is lovely.

We put money to one weekend a month for a day out. The rest are activities that are completely free. My older ones go out to play with the neighbourhood children most of the time or on the trampoline which is used almost daily.

Last weekend we visited a play center nearby that's only £2.00 per child. Ages 0-12. We usually bring our own sandwiches though as there's also food to be paid for but we often treat them to a slushie as they get all sweaty and hot running about as the adults sit and chat with a cuppa.

Some things that are free are:
Movies
Library
Baking
Park
Museums
Bike Riding
Arts & Crafts
Play-dates

Don't worry about it. You're doing great. Some kids don't spend time with their children at all and send them off to do their own thing.

I think your activities sound nice. Is she having difficulty remembering what you did on the Monday? My 5yo struggles with this. I try to have a conversation on the way to school to remind her.

This weekend we have baked cakes and scones and gone to our local show to enter them. Today the kids have done homework and played out, and we're now off to a birthday meal with a friend (the dc count this as boring).

We joined the National Trust too which is fab for weekends. It is a monthly fee but really good value if you can go often.

Thanks everyone forgot to say she had gymnastics yesterday morning as well. She has asd and isn’t very good at giving ideas on what she wants to do. Think every week at school some kid has done something that she thinks is amazing and then she thinks whatever we have done is boring in comparison.
