DSIS has been left with £18 of her Universal credit this month. Assuming she can’t find work this month, it’s going to be difficult

Keep in mind the Job centre expect her to attend weekly meetings (sometimes two a week), attend interviews, drive to places to hand her CV advertising who wanted CVs delivering in person as well as feed herself, keep her phone topped up so she call can call up about jobs/appointments

You may be asking why. Because for every pound she earnt from a job she lost for taking a day off sick- 63p was taken from every pound. She earnt £375.

Because this rule was not at any time explained to her- she spent the majority of that wage sending out parents on a holiday for their wedding anniversary.

The job centre say that they can’t help. She has debt payments to make- or baliffs are likely to be on my parents door as she is already on a payment plan

Any help?

@martian1990 that's isn't the case re if she'd been ion jsa she'd have kept all her benefit.
On jsa you loose it £1 for £1 and only keep a fiver.
When you work 16 hrs, you have to close your claim on JSA. So actually she's £18 better off on UC.
Her own fault for spending it on a holiday and I don't believe nothing was explained to her. It's explained when she makes the claim on line. She's bullshitting you because she blew her money

That's being said it's done now and I feel sorry for your sister that she has nothing to live on this month.

For things like food she is probably eligible for her local food bank and for travel she might be eligible for bus tokens (I'm not sure that's still a thing now though) to be used to get her to the benefit office or appointments they have deemed necessary.

awwlook she received £375 this month. She spent all but £18 sending her parents on holiday. She needs to cut her cloth.

I’ve been on my arse poor and I’ve held onto every penny and not blown it on unnecessary things. Even if she received her wages and uc she could not afford to pay for that holiday as she has debts that are so perilous the bailiffs will come at the first missed payment. If she’d made a mistake and paid those leaving herself with £18 she would have all my sympathy.

But she made the mistake not learning about universal credit.

Yes yabu. Its not the states fault that your sister can't budget or be responsible enough to find out how much her benefits would decrease when she was working.
