To not be able to get a job because of my cbc

I was arrested around 7 years ago for witness intimidation 🤦🏽‍♀️ Absolutely disgusting allegations by a disgruntled family member who wanted to retaliate for another case that was happening at the time involving him and dh.
I was found not guilty. It was an absolutely horrific time for me. Never been involved with the police in any way in my life. It took me along time to get over it.

But now I’ have enrolled into a course at college which will mean an enhanced criminal background check. How likely is it they will tell me no? Sad I want to do this course so much.

Is it preventing you getting a job?

BigArmo · 29/09/2018 19:45

I haven’t worked in over 10 years. I have been a sahm.

You were found not guilty. It should be fine.

Thingsdogetbetter · 29/09/2018 19:47

Pretty sure only convictions counted? Otherwise being found innocent would fuck up thousands of people's lives !

WooYa · 29/09/2018 19:47

As long as you declare and answer any questions they may have then I don't see why it should affect it

BigArmo · 29/09/2018 19:50

Oh thank you so much. I’ve been panicking so much over this. I can breath a little now Smile.

I did think it was for convictions only. But when I read about the enhanced search. It said even arrests show up.

I will be very open and honest for sure. Thank you all.

A not guilty verdict comes under "other relevant information". It won't show up under convictions, arrests, cautions etc.
The relevant information section is handled carefully so it may or may not be included. But if it is, it will show as not guilty and you should explain everything to the college. Maybe do it in advance... or take the chance that the police won't even include it.

Yourenotericlove · 29/09/2018 19:52

With an enhanced, Police can release any information they hold.

There is a DBS helpline - might be worth you contacting them to see where you stand:
DBS customer services

Telephone: 0300 0200 190

BigArmo · 29/09/2018 19:59

Thank you all so much.
Knitted. That’s so helpful. I will be on the phone first thing Monday morning. Thank you.

Does it not drop off your record after 6 years?

Or am I just thinking of bankruptcy and stuff like that?

BigArmo · 29/09/2018 20:10

I thought this too. But when I did some research. It said arrests show up too on enhanced searches.

Not Guilty does not necessarily mean innocent though with the standard of proof being so high and there not being a verdict of 'they probably did it but we can't prove it' as there is in Scotland. Not saying that this applies to the OP but it obviously makes sense that arrests and court appearances can be declared where it is likely that the person was guilty to stop those who are likely to be a danger getting into positions of trust.

shinycat · 29/09/2018 20:30

Hmmmm, maybe best to admit it then. Sorry OP. Hope all goes well for you!

JagerPlease · 29/09/2018 20:52

There was a court case fairly recently on this, basically its up to the police whether non convictions are relevant and stay on there. The case related to a guy found not guilty of rape but the police obviously believed there was sufficient concern that it should stay on his DBS
