To go back on an agreement

Decided to sell something on a local Facebook group for £10. Agreed to sell it to someone and have now discovered it’s worth £500+. My own fault of course but would I be unreasonable to go back on my agreement to sell it for £10 or should I honour it.

For info, we could do with the money but we’re not actually skint and the item concerned had been in the shed for 8 years so not like we’d expected to earn money from it.

Just say sorry, your DH changed his mind about selling it right now.

Renege. I would, it's not like it's a couple of pound. Whoever buys it will probably know it's true worth, and will more than likely sell it on for it's full value.

Tell then that you accidentally broke it (if it’s breakable) or that you’re dog ate it!

Ooh. Give us a clue! In the shed for 8 years, but unknowingly worth a bit. Limited edition wheelbarrow? (Also agree you can apologise and withdraw sale)

'I can't sell it to you for £10 be cause I have just found out it is worth £500'.

Job done.

Break the deal. Blame the Hubby (that's what I'd do) something like... "I'm so sorry, when my Hubby realised I was selling it he hit the roof and won't let me" x

OMG. You cannot sell a Brompton bike for a tenner!!!!

Yes, you can go back on it. I guarantee the person buying it knows it's worth way more. Even if it was in great disrepair you could get more than £10 selling it for spares and repairs!

I would definitely tell them it is not for sale.

Also I am certain the would be buyer knows it’s full value so don’t feel bad about it at all OP

I would back out of the deal honestly and let them know why. Say you need the money and you didn't realise it was worth so much. I'm sure they would only sell it on for a profit anyway.

Don't be daft - back out!

Back out of the sale as soon as possible, and donate a percentage of the sale to a worthy cause once you do sell for £000s, to ease your guilt

Do you really think said buyer would go through with the sale themselves if they were in your shoes?

Also, maybe they know what it's worth and are planning to sell it on ?!

Id go back on it, it's your property until monies exchange hands Grin
