Shamelessly posting here for traffic. I’m tiny but have feet like a hobbit. Small and wide. Exacerbated by 20 years of heel wearing and a mild inherited bunion. I had new balance D fitting (that’s wide) and they were great. Our running shop no longer stocks. Brooks D too narrow as are the Mizuno ones which apparently come up wide. They have no other options apart from ultras which are a step too far for me (like barefoot running). Looking at my feet they don’t look like they are impossible to accommodate - any ideas from runners about wide fitting (neutral) trainers?

Have you tried Altra? They are really nice and wide at the front.

Ha ha, great minds etc. ;)

I have feet like flippers - wide toes but narrow at the heel. I find Hokas fit really well and are comfy as anything is possible to be.

shitholiday2018 · 29/09/2018 17:04

Oh ladies I could kiss you! Do they do a wide fitting or are they wide naturally? Taking my hobbit feet off to find a stockist near me...

I get mine from here usually, they are all wide

I used to run in Hoka's but prefer altra as they are wider ime

shitholiday2018 · 29/09/2018 17:10

Thanks just want to run, will see where sells these too. Internet rubbish, need to stick my hobbit feet right in.

YANBU. Skechers do a wide fit on their own website. Nike and new balance tend to be a bit broader too.

shitholiday2018 · 29/09/2018 17:31

Skechers and Nike are just too narrow for me. New balance wide we’re perfect but no longer stocked in any of our runningnships!!

I was going to suggest Nike, until I got to the end of the thread. Many of their styles have the holy grail of slim ankle and wide toe box that makes them one of the few brands I can wear with my duck feet.

Twotabbycats · 29/09/2018 23:52

Thanks for the thread OP - I'm the same. I have some old black lace up sketchers which I think are EEE - they are very comfy but starting to look tatty. I'd love to have a non scruffy pair too but they don't make them any more! Will check out the altras. I have a wide forefoot but narrow heels so often if the front is wide enough the heels slip off!

try being a woman with mens size 12 and have been since i was 11

ive lived in mens trainers ever since(i was the only girl in my school to be allowed to wear trousers and trainers)

my 8 y old is a adult 4 but very wide feet(say a clarks I/J)he has to wear sandals all year as
1 we cant find trainers wide enough and if we go up a size they are to big and floppy at the toes so cant walk properly
2 he had SPD so cant tolerate clothes/shoes
3 im so glad hes home ed as there is no chance i would get shoes to fit him

shitholiday2018 · 30/09/2018 19:47

Altras purchased This morning and broken in this afternoon. They are a revelation! The comfiest I’ve worn in years, and certainly the best run. I can’t put my fingers on what was different but I was faster and had more oomph despite being ragingly hungover. Thank you so much for the suggestions. Why these weren’t in the shop’s first suggestons I do the know, they should have been. And why aren’t more shoes foot shaped? Even my kids Clark’s are tapered so they narrow at the toe where feet do not usually narrow. Bizarre. Might write to Clark’s.

Tor, you poor thing! And your kids too. It’s so tricky being different in any way as a child’s and even worse as a teenager. I feel your pain. I was tiny which has always felt like a burden, I spent years in heels denying my true height and have fucked my feet up as a result. I wish I had the confidence then that I have now to think fuck it.

Thanks for reporting back, I will definitely check them out. Which ones did you get?

shitholiday2018 · 30/09/2018 22:31

Hi twotabby, I got Altra Torin Knit, in 5.5 which is a whole size larger than my shoe size. They are incredibly comfy.

OP posts:
shitholiday2018 · 30/09/2018 22:32

They are women’s trainers.

LordBuckley · 30/09/2018 22:48

Thanks very much for this thread; I'm not a runner, but I do a lot of walking, and I can never find wide enough trainers. I've found a local shop that stocks Altra shoes, so I'll be off to have a look.

Saralyn · 01/10/2018 19:46

Glad you liked them, OP!

After I had worn out my first pair of Altras I went back to the same store. Tried on a couple of different types, but ended up buying Altras again..The sales assistant commented that they're so comfortable there's no going back to narrower types!
