feeling fucking depressed and blobby and pissed off today.

I will never have the willpower or the love for myself to make the change I desperately need to make. I am just going to get bigger and bigger and bigger and end up nearly immobile like my fat mum. fml

I follow @fatgirlfedup on Instagram and she really is inspirational. Lost about 20 stone through diet and exercise, and she shows you how she did it and continues to maintain.

Www is slow but it's not a killer diet and I found when I started at 15 stone 8 the weight fell off for the first few weeks then steadied to about a pound or so a week.
Lost 5 stone in 9 months but a few have crept back on due to silly eating habits over the years so I m back again. Two and a half pounds off this week. I m going to buy a new pair of leggings as a little reward. Break it up into half stone targets. Treat yourself along the way and don't wait till you're goal weight. The only exercise I do is walk so I have step counter on my phone

Ta1kinpeace · 29/09/2018 18:03

Aim for two pounds a week.
Slow and steady.
Because that is in fact eight stone in a year Smile

I follow Fat Girl Fed Up on Instagram, too and if you do, IG will suggest loads of other similar people. Instagram is fantastic for motivating you. There are so many women on there who have lost that amount.

You can do it. I don't think on your own though.

What kind of a cook are you? The key to me losing a lot of weight was preparing really nice food. I cut all junk but I eat really well. I make everything flavourful and I eat fat. Lots of dieters cut it because of the calories then their food is disgusting. Fat fills you up. I eat good butter on sourdough toast, avocadoes, olive oil. Just in sensible amounts. I spend good money on food - I see it as an act of self-love.

Have you had therapy? You definitely soubd like you could do with some hood support. What hobbies do you have? For me pursuing a specific skill has done wonders for my self-esteem. When I was big I felt so worthless. Now, several years on, I am really good at something quite niche and it's genuinely helped me value myself. Even learning a language on Duolingo helped me.

Two books helped me a lot too. Brain Over Binge is the first one and The Thin Woman's Brain is the other.

Life improves drastically for getting some weight off. I wish there was a quick fix because I know how defeated you feel when you have a lot to lose. But it is worth every bit of hard work and you deserve to be healthy.

Take it in bitesize chunks and reward the heck out of yourself for every stone you lose.

Look for James Smith on Facebook and listen to what he's got to say about portion control, slimming world and lifting weights. Try not to state at his arse too much or get offended.

Get the Blood Sugar Diet book and read it. You don't have to decide to do that diet but I found it incredibly inspiring. You can change, you really can

FATEdestiny · 29/09/2018 18:31

First Aim:

Eat an amount that means you don't get any bigger. Every day, every week.

The rest will follow from this.

I have struggled all my adult life with my weight, it can be soul destroying, and depressing, which makes me eat more. I have a lot to loose, I have found a few things that work for me.

Being in the right mindset, this sounds silly but I know I need to loose weight but that wont make it happen I have to be in the right mind set, it makes things easier, everything seems to flow.

Finding a diet plan that works for you, that sounds simple but for a very long time I followed WW and SW, they worked short term but for me I have found (recently) its carbs that stall my weight loss and make me put weight on, try a few find one that work for you and your lifestyle

Most people eat their main meal in the evening, maybe try mixing it up if you can, eating my main meal at lunch time helps, and as a bonus I sleep better at night

increase what you drink, not high sugar soda, water fizzy is good with lemon and ice, but anything it fills you up, and many times we think we are hungry when in fact we are thirsty

Little steps, dont expect to loose a stone a week, its not going to happen, we have all read the stories of amazing and speedy losses it can make us feel deflated but even a pound a week is in the right direction

Be gentle with yourself, its a long journey, not a short trip. Don't give up if you have a bad day, we all have bad days, its part of the process, it doesnt have to mean the whole diet is over

Looks at 5:2 fasting thats good if you dont have great will power, and pretty effective, or even 8 week blood sugar diet. Finally good luck

As someone who lost 11st though diet and exercise alone, it is absolutely possible. Even at my lightest, 11st down, I was eating 2000 calories a day.

You don't have to deprive yourself, you dont have to starve yourself, you don't have to spend hours in the gym.

What you do need to do, is make little changes that are sustainable. For me, I counted calories and reduced my intake gradually from 2800 to 2000, increased exercise (although I lost 8st before even considering exercise). Start to finish 11st took just over 2 years.

Categorically though, you need to be in the right place mentally in order to achieve it.

I'm with you I have about 12-13 stone to lose.

One thing I find very good is when you weigh yourself and think "oh, I've only lost 1lb" just remember that looks like this!

to think there is no way I will ever be able to lose the 10 stone I need to lose
lljkk · 30/09/2018 08:58

One day at a time, folks. x

SmallState · 30/09/2018 09:08

I'm in the process of losing weight, (I'm almost halfway to where I need to be) and what's worked for me Is savage cuts to my intakes. I calorie count and aim for no more than 1,000 per day.

Binky89 · 30/09/2018 11:32

Not sure if this would help but when I wanted to lose a few stone, I did my food shopping online and ordered a lot of weight watchers ready meals and snacks etc, I made sure there was only low calorie food in the house and avoided buying food in shops/petrol stations etc.

I felt unhappy for years but for some reason just accepted the fact I was meant to be fat! Then something just clicked in January and I thought actually I don’t have to be .ive been following a diet of 4/5 days a week of 1200 calories and then have the off day where I go over, but not exceeded 2000. I’ve also. Ive also now reduced the ready meals I eat as I’m more aware of what calories are in “normal food”. It’s a good way to start but probably not sustainable for ever etc

I started off at 12 stone and it’s taken me 8 months to lose 2.5 stone so there’s probably quicker ways to do it but I’ll be honest and admit I’ve chosen the laziest way possible!

If you have a lot to lose I bet you’ll find you’ll lose a lot even in the worst week and that can sometimes be the motivation to do the next week, and so on. I wish you all the best , I honestly know how you feel , it always feels impossible but you’ll be surprised how little effort you could make and still lose weight! Xxx
