to refuse to pay for 'treatment' at hairdresser

Today I went for a cut and blow dry. I checked how much it would be beforehand and was told £29.50.

Whilst my hair was being washed I was asked if I would like some conditioning treatment. Thinking that I was just being asked if I wanted conditioner or not I said yes please and some conditioner was rubbed into my hair for a couple of minutes. No mention was made of price

When I went to pay I was charged £46.50. when I asked why it was so much I was told the 'treatment' was £17

WIBU to refuse to pay?

It's genuinely great to see this kind of shit, makes you realise the good times are back and businesses think they can charge for anything

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/09/2018 22:29

17 quid for a bit of conditioner?
Was it made from ground up diamonds?

IvorHughJarrs · 28/09/2018 22:37

I'm really shocked! I go to an independent hairdresser and I have never heard of that amount for any treatment

tor8181 · 28/09/2018 22:48

bloody hell we can get a hair cut for 10 pounds by me(south wales)

wash cut and blow dry is £15

MollyHuaCha · 28/09/2018 22:58

I've had the old conditioning treatment trick too...

HildaZelda · 28/09/2018 23:02

YANBU OP. The hairdresser was a CF of the highest order!
Well done for standing your ground and refusing to pay.

OlennasWimple · 28/09/2018 23:25

Supercuts....?

user1473878824 · 28/09/2018 23:37

I’m really sorry to go against the grain but you misunderstood and said yes to the treatment. So yeah, you should pay for it.

HelenUrth · 29/09/2018 00:20

User are you a hairdresser or just an idiot?

Really sick of upselling in hair salons, was recently offered a treatment for my dry ends which was 'great value' at a tenner. Except I was getting 8 inches cut off my hair!
At least, unlike the OP, I was given the price!

PlantsArePeopleToo · 29/09/2018 00:26

WTF kind of conditioning treatment costs £17?

YANBU.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/09/2018 00:30

Exactly Plants.
That's just daylight robbery.

PickAChew · 29/09/2018 00:49

They should hVe told you how much when offering. At my old hzidrezzesrrs (work it out) it was ¥5 (should be quid) and I still declined,!

Belina · 29/09/2018 00:53

17 pound what a joke the treatment likely cost about 5 pounds. No I wouldn't of paid either a treatment is something left on hair for about a hour under heat not slop into bait for 2 minutes

Losingthewill1 · 29/09/2018 04:24

You should leave a review on google for the salon x

schoty77 · 29/09/2018 05:03

£17 for some conditioner?? Absolute joke! YANBU, cheeky sods.

Hellomatey001 · 29/09/2018 05:09

I had a similar experience at hairdresser based in a John Lewis. I was asked whether I wanted a conditioning treatment said "Yes" expecting some fancy oil treatment.

It was 4 sprays from a bottle. 4 sprays. That's it. Cost £12.

I paid and didn't make a fuss but needless to say never returned.

wowfudge · 29/09/2018 05:10

I had this happen to me several years ago at a salon and I complained that the additional cost was never mentioned. They deducted it from the bill. I was a regular customer and it was offered to every customer and every time there was no mention of cost.

LunaMay · 29/09/2018 05:15

I'm so glad you didn't pay! I used to watch people get caught out at my old hairdressers all the time and you could see they really wanted to say something but they never did, which is why they get away with it! In that case it wasn't treatments but they used to ask if you'd like them to straighten/dry your hair in such a casual way without mentioning the extra cost. i think most people expect that included when theyre charging between $70-150.

deptfordgirl · 29/09/2018 05:41

Was this T&G? This has happened to me too and I just paid as presumed it was my fault. It's terrible. Now I just say no to everything.

ScornedDIL · 29/09/2018 05:52

I meekly paid £30 for the same extra. I then had to rearrange the weekly shop.

chatwoo · 29/09/2018 05:55

I've had this before - can't remember the price but was very annoyed by it (Headmasters chain)! So good for you I say :)

ToastyFingers · 29/09/2018 05:57

tor8181 I'm in south Wales and DH pays more than that at the barbers! About £30 is standard for a decent cut in my neck of the woods.

Bibijayne · 29/09/2018 06:08

That's nuts!

I recently had a cut and blow dry and specifically asked for a deep conditioning treatment. They asked me to come in 15 minutes early so they could get the treatment working. The treatment only cost £7 more. It was a specific separate thing.
