Should I LTB?

Slightly light hearted

DH broke my beloved 20 year old Kenwood mixer.

I'm in mourning and may be a little unreasonable, but he's now suggesting that I get a new one as my birthday present (it's a 0 birthday so it's actually being acknowledged by people other than my sister this year)

Should I LTB or just accidentally drive over his favourite Mountain Bike?

Fuck that. He broke it. He replaces it.

Who wants a kitchen appliance as a birthday present? Confused

He broke the mixer. LTB

He's a wazzock for wanting to make a domestic appliance a suitable birthday gift. LTB.

Mash up the mountain bike: condign punishment. And then LTB.

I smell sabotage.......he broke it on purpose so he could buy you a new one for your birthday and hence would not have to actually think about what to buy you

‘Thank you darling. I’m planning on getting you a year’s supply of loo roll. Do you prefer quilted or plain.’

To be honest though the mixer was over 20 years old so it would have gave out sooner or later. Husband sounds like he is was unlucky to be using it at the time. And if sexes were reversed you'd have got this answer a lot sooner.

Given they're quite expensive to replace could you claim on home insurance? I claimed for a laptop broken when the cat knocked it off a table and it didn't affect our premium costs. Obviously would only be an idea if you have new for old on your policy sunny think they'd give you much for a twenty year old one!

What @Slatterns said. Our vacuum once broke near my birthday and DH offered to 'buy me a new one for a present'. He was soon put right about that!

IDrinkFromTheKegOfGlory · 28/09/2018 11:57

He broke it, he buys you a new one before your birthday.

Mind you, my Kenwood mixer was my favourite present for my 40th! 😁 But I love baking and I did ask for it. It would be divorce if I ever got a vacuum cleaner as a present (mostly because I try very hard never to use one!) 😆

I kind of see both sides, I love my Kenwood, and will add the my mum's is still going strong 40 years later.

I use it at least once a week, and do love baking. So if he'd just got me a new one without breaking the old one I probably would have been thrilled.

That said he did break it by not using it properly (despite there being very obvious instructions on the machine) Not sure if our insurance would cover that - but may be worth a look.

I suspect destroying his favourite bike would be a step too far, but I'm feeling very grumpy about the whole thing. I had my eye on a lovey Radley purse (the nice one my mum got me over 15 years ago is really dying a death)
