I'm generally a confident person and keep myself to myself.Yesterday I had just dropped my ds off at school (He's 4) and another mother approached me and told me that my ds name was "all over facebook" because he had told another child that his dad would bring a knife and stab her! I was understandably shaken and asked the teacher who was still in the doorway what had happened. She said that they knew who the child was who said it and it wasn't mine. Why the hell would a grown adult speak about a child on social media? I'm worried that mud will stick and people will have an unfounded opinion of my child.I know it shouldn't matter and my ds is none the wiser but I just hate the feeling that my son has been talked about like that wrongly.Sorry for the long post.

You need to speak to the headteacher. A similar thing happened a few years ago at my DS' school about a child in a different year group. School took it very seriously. The parents involved were reprimanded and all parents were reminded of their responsibilities when using social media.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 28/09/2018 07:54

Tell the school which Mother spoke to you and the exact words; schools take a dim view on things being aired on social media, particularly when it's naming and shaming pupils.

fourpawswhite · 28/09/2018 07:54

In would get straight on facebook and see whether indeed your child has been named or whether she has confused you with the mother of the other child.

If your child has been named, screen shot and report immediately. Arrange a meeting with school to express concern as to how this has come about. Take it from there.

You defiantly need to take this further with the school Flowers

I've spoken to the teacher as the head was out of school at the time, the parent has apparently been informed that it wasn't my son.I just wish they hadn't put it on bloody fb!

Definitely report it to the school and ask them to follow up.

Even if it’s “sorted” now, it should never have happened in the first place and might not be so easily resolved in future.

QueenOfMyWorld · 28/09/2018 08:07

I know,I never thought school would be like this I've got 14 years left lol

Who's she going to accuse next now that it's not your son? She's a grown woman and shouldn't post about a child on FB.
March up to her and tell her you want an apology on FB. That'll learn her Wink

That's really appalling behaviour, why an grown adult would name a child in that kind of context on social media is beyond me - whether it's true or not!

I would be furious too, as the others say speak to the headmaster and see if you can find out any more detail from this lady. For example when it was posted by whom and what was actually said. And then contact Facebook with this information and make sure it's completely removed from any archives.

It's sad but these are the 'new age' problems us parents have to go through following the explosion of social media and smart phones. I'm dreading when mine start school!

Snowymountainsalways · 28/09/2018 08:29

You have informed the school, I am assuming the teacher will be reporting the incident to the head once she/he is back.

I am not sure how many people would believe this story or how many parents would have seen it. Ignore and continue as you are being friendly and confident.
If anyone asks you just put them straight. I am pretty sure most people take these things with a pinch of salt, I know I do. I would be more wary of the person posting things like that to be honest.

Always the best course of action is to take out the drama. It was a mistake, the other parent probably deeply regrets posting anything now on fb, move on quickly and it will be yesterday's news.
