School lunches

The academy my children (secondary) go to are strict on what you can and can’t put in their lunchboxes. No crisps or chocolate etc. I have no problem with this at all.

My problem is that they have had school lunches this week. I can look online on what they have had. Ds2 has had a sausage baguette, a slush puppy, a chocolate mousse and a fizzy pop. Ds3 has had chips, a bacon roll, a milkshake and a fizzy pop.

Aibu in the double standards of it? Parents aren’t allowed to give their children junk food but the school is happy to take my money for it?

Shock that's shocking. Also fab at the same time that you are able to check what they've had

Bit of a crappy selection, DDs school did a nice selection, not all super healthy but a good mix and packed lunches aren’t too strictly monitored although they do ask to avoid chocolate and sweets and to offer a healthy variety. This is the cooked lunch menu this week

Ridiculous double standards! I thought schools we supposed to have stopped selling fizzy drinks (or was that just an idea that never took off?)

that's mad! in my school the only drinks for sale were milk, juice, and water. There were no pudddings except fruit. the meals however could have done with an overhaul. the mains, jacket potatoes, pasta, and sandwiches were balanced, but they also sold paninis (with no salad on the side), and thick stodgy pizza quarters.

Though they didn't care about packed lunches at all! As long as there were no peanuts anything went!

and this was before all the main fuss came in.

my primary school also didnt have lunchbox rules (bar no peanuts).

Is a secondary school really checking the contents of packing up?
