Sat with my dd(6) and this advert comes on tv for a family game...called Smart Ass. Also shows a picture of a target covering the animals buttShock. Dd is looking at me saying Ass is swearing.
Opinions please or is it just me that was surprised by this.

Well if the animal is a donkey, YABU. If not, then I would also raise an eyebrow.

HP07 · 27/09/2018 15:04

An Ass is another word for a donkey?

TrudeauGirl · 27/09/2018 15:09

If it's a donkey on the game. yabu

iklboo · 27/09/2018 15:11

Ass is not swearing. Even if you're thinking of the American usage it's vulgar at worst.

Padparadscha · 27/09/2018 15:23

Just googled the game, it has a donkey on the front. Also, ass isn’t swearing. There isn’t an opinion here, this is something about nothing.

GummyGoddess · 27/09/2018 15:24

Only in that it sounds like arse which I do consider swearing.

SneakyGremlins · 27/09/2018 15:25

Ass and arse aren't swearing Confused

iklboo · 27/09/2018 15:27

Only in that it sounds like arse which I do consider swearing.

Not in my accent it doesn't Grin

EleanorLavish · 27/09/2018 15:27

i'd class arse /butt together and they wouldn't bother me.
But us Irish do love a good swear, I have to turn the radio down sometimes on the school run!Blush

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 27/09/2018 15:27

Are you mixing up Arse with Ass.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/09/2018 15:30

It’s an ass so yabu but there are a lot of toilet humour board games about at the mo. As someone who doesn’t mind toilet humour I think it’s a bit ott at the mo.

Enb76 · 27/09/2018 15:33

In UK English

An ass is a donkey from the Latin 'asinus'
An arse is a bottom

In American English

An ass is a bottom, it's use is problematic for a donkey
An arse doesn't exist

Enb76 · 27/09/2018 15:37

Edit:

It looks like the American usage of ass has also come from the latin but in its other usage as 'dolt or fool' and originally had nothing to do with bottoms.

CoughLaughFart · 27/09/2018 15:38

It’s a mildly ‘naughty’ pun. If that’s the worst you live ever seen on telly in terms of swearing you’re doing well.

EvePolastri · 27/09/2018 15:41

Are you clutching your pearls over this op??

Celebelly · 27/09/2018 15:42

We have this game. It's great fun! misses point entirely

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 27/09/2018 15:49

We love this game!

Secretsquirrel252 · 27/09/2018 15:51

Come back to me when they advertise Cunting Connect 4

InspectorIkmen · 27/09/2018 15:52

OMG. Your poor DD. It's possible she's corrupted for life but just in case she isn't I think it's probably best that you get rid of the telly until she's 21. Oh - and don't send her to school. The first word my kids learnt at school was FUCK. Grin

iklboo · 27/09/2018 15:54

Come back to me when they advertise Cunting Connect 4 Grin

Double pack with Bastard Buckaroo?

Secretsquirrel252 · 27/09/2018 15:55

ravenmum · 27/09/2018 15:59

When you say a person is being an ass, you're saying they are being annoying, like a stubborn donkey. You're not comparing them to someone's bum.

Donkey
Scientific name: Equus asinus

en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/ass
Origin
Old English assa, from a Celtic word related to Welsh asyn, Breton azen, based on Latin asinus.

parry45 · 27/09/2018 16:00
