I’ve let myself go

I’ve put on 2 stone and I’ve just got really out of breath just putting a load on the washing machine. I need to sort myself out but feel like I’m at the bottom of an impossible mountain. AIBU to ask if anyone has ever let this happen to them? He did you turn it around? How can I motivate myself? What works.

Sorry that was meant for @primoestate lol

I agree just starting is the key. A walk, a piece of fruit and a glass of water. I didn't announce anything to anyone but just used the WW app and walked as much as possible and slowly lost two and a half stone at about a pound a week. As a PP said, make it into a project with you as the subject.

I am a believer in “fake it until you make it”, I find how I feel inside determines what I put inside. Beating myself up, calling myself names will only lead to more weight gain.

peopleispeople · 27/09/2018 14:36

I lost almost three stone last year - WW and gym - but since I met my bf... I (we) have put on about a stone.

I am nipping it in the bud and since back from holidays I've rejoined a gym near my new work to fit in a 30min fitness class at lunchtime. Just back from my second session and feeling rather pleased with myself.

It's my birthday at the weekend... so actual diet/watching what I eat... will start on Monday.

It is hard... but if you are motivated... you can do it. Just remember, it didn't all go on overnight... so it won't all come off overnight!

Good luck everyone!

I was in a similar position around 2 years ago.

What worked for me was the 20 minute rule i.e. wait 20 minutes after a meal before going back for seconds, rather than immediately helping myself to more. Sometimes after 20 minutes I'm still hungry and I do go back for seconds, but more often I'm not and I don't bother.

It was a mindful thing when I first started doing it but now it is second nature. And I don't feel deprived/like it is too hard to maintain.

I didn't follow any particular diet or increase my exercise (I do a little over the WHO recommended guidelines for physical activity, I'm not a mental gym bunny).

I'm now at the weight I should be for my height and feel comfortable in my body. It probably took about a year to get to that point. I felt it was creeping back on over the summer just now with all of the nice weather (and too much wine) and it has taken a couple of weeks of being more mindful about it to get back on track.

You can do it!

I took up running just over a year ago and I've lost loads of weight (was size 14, now down to size 10). I downloaded a free couch to 10K app and did that, and now do parkruns every Saturday morning and I've joined a running club. Parkruns are brilliant, there are loads of them all over the country - they're free and all standards of runners and walkers take part. www.parkrun.org.uk

Come over to Weight Loss chat, OP!

BuntyII · 27/09/2018 14:54

I have too. I had actually joined a slimming club and was sorting my weight out and decided to go and get a lovely new haircut as I was feeling so good. Told the hairdresser to take off as much needed length wise and she took that to mean she had a free hand and gave me a full fringe. A really short vintage style one. Too short even to pin back. That was 3 months ago and it's only growing long enough to reach my eyebrows now. I was horrified, and I'm not normally vain, but she totally destroyed my hair and there's been no hiding it. I've just become a lethargic mess and don't even bother putting makeup on because I feel like what's the point when my hairs a total mess anyway? I can barely look in the mirror some days because all I can is this stupid fringe sticking up.

Anyway. Looking forward to the fringe growing out Blush

shearwater · 27/09/2018 15:00

I'm sure it isn't as bad as you think, Buntyll. Don't beat yourself up, you have been trying to keep yourself going, not letting yourself go anywhere!

BuntyII · 27/09/2018 15:08

Thanks @shearwater. I've just put some makeup on, then felt brave enough to weigh myself and I'm actually about a stone less than I thought. Still very overweight though. I suspect I might have diabetes - I feel very tired all the time for someone who doesn't do very much Blush

shearwater · 27/09/2018 15:17

Get yourself checked out by your GP, Buntyll. It might be low iron or some other deficiency.

ohtheholidays · 27/09/2018 15:19

Yes I was the same,I wanted to lose 4 stone to get back to where I was.

I joined slimming world and so far I've lost over 1 and a half stone in a couple of months,my fitness has got better and I've made some new friends through the group I attend.

Since losing the weight I've treated myself to some new clothes, got my hair, eyebrows and nails done and I feel and look so much better,I still have some weight to shift but come the summer I should be back in a size 12.

Honestly one step at a time and you'll get there.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 27/09/2018 15:27

Me too. Not geinedloads but unfit and exhausted

Fatasfook · 27/09/2018 15:39

Thanks for all the support. I think I need to break it down into smaller goals. One pound at a time. One day at a time etc. It feels less overwhelming like that

Bunty Feeling tired and exhausted all the time is a reaction to too much wheat and or sugar\sweeteners. I cut out wheat I(still have pure rye or spelt toast) And I feel miles better (as long as I have 7 hours sleep at night of course!).

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/09/2018 09:11

I hear you OP. What works for me when I've been feeling like you is to do a bit of everything to help me feel better.

Haircut and highlights
Actually watching what I eat, so making sure everything to a degree is healthy and not processed. Smaller portion sizes.
Yoga/Pilates and walking.
New clothes.
Drinking more water.

Just generally looking after myself. If you can give this a good two weeks I promise you will start to feel better.

Good luck Smile
