Ds7 fell over last year and chipped his front tooth, he had it restored in the summer holidays but he is now in pain with it after he he hit it again.
I took him for an emergency dental appointment yesterday and was told he may need a root canal which he has been referred for and that if he has knocked it again it's just settling which is why he maybe experiencing pain.
He was up most of the night moaning in his sleep and in pain again even after having Nurofen.
He's now getting ready for school and is complaining that it's hurting again, I really don't know what else I can do any suggestions please?

Ibuprofen is bugger all for dental pain, and I say that as someone why has had multiple abscesses and root canals.... Can you phone the dentist for advice on pain relief and antibiotics? Did they not xray it?

Is it a baby tooth? Does it need to be root treated? Would it not be kinder to pull it out or is it a front tooth?

Its his adult tooth, yes they done an x-ray and have said there is no more damage than there was before.
The dentist suggested calpol/Nurofen for pain relief.

Are you alternating the paracetamol and ibuprofen products then? Work out the max doses he can have in a day then split them across the day so he's constantly topping up every few hours rather than taking the two together so for example,

8am paracetamol
11am ibuprofen
1pm paracetamol
4pm ibuprofen

Etc (but obviously check the doses very very carefully!!)

I hope you are not sending him to school if he’s been up most of the night in pain and is still experiencing pain. Tooth pain is one of the worst.

I’d phone the dentist and ask for further advice.

No infection? Still, ring them back. Sounds like he needs stronger pain relief. It's always much worse at night

There's definitely no infection, he's had the standard 10ml dose of Nurofen this morning and I think he's allowed 5ml of paracetamol in a few hours to keep it topped up.
